Well hopefully mine and Gmbrezzo's cancer battles help too inspire a lot more of you guys and gals to go and get proper health checks, especially those of you old farts over 40 years of age lol.

Yes you are old if your 40+ ask any teen or twenty something.

This is not the sort of thing i would wish on my worst enemy, and even though the surgery went well and they got the gland out cleanly, it is now the years of checkups to make sure it hasn't come back or spread to another part of the body.

If you do go too the doctors for a checkup, demand a PSA blood test, it is a more definitive test to determine if you have an issue , "BUT" a raised level is not indicative of prostrate cancer . The old finger up the bum , is not always a good method of determining prostrate cancer, but if your tests come back abnormally high, it helps the doctors to see if it is enlarged, and that may be absolutely nothing either. The old adage " better safe than sorry " rings true.

So do yourselves and your loved ones a massive favour, and GO AND GET CHECKED OUT.

Well done matey. Out the other side now hopefully.

I'm not up with the tradition in Aus, but in the UK, when someone is ill or recovering, you visit them with lots of these....

And for some obscure reason, sometimes a bottle of this....

So consider the above my virtual gift to you :)

Cheers Ugame, much appreciated . This is just the start of the fun, now the recovery part comes, and retraining my bladder not too let go just because there is fluid in there, i'll be wearing adult diapers for a few weeks and hopefully the pelvic floor exercises go well enough to switch to liners and allow me to go back too work in my proper capacity.

Ok , a bit of an update on the battle with the prostrate cancer and the post surgery follow up.

Well i am on my way to a good recovery and starting to get the hang of controlling my bladder and the leakage that happens after the surgery.

Saw a specialist Physiotherapist who deals with us old farts and our wonky wobbly broken old bits. Lyn was one of the senior physio's at the Royal Womens & Childrens Hospital here in Brisbane for many years, and now works in a private practice. She was quite happy with how i was doing my exercises, but helped me tweak them to make them do a better job of strengthening the pelvic floor muscle and getting better control, so far so good.

I'll be back at work next week, albeit just in the office for a couple of weeks helping to reorganize all our delivery routes and update the system. Then i should be back on the road terrorizing all the other road users :D .

If any of you old codgers out there are unsure what signs to look for or what too expect if you do have the dreaded Prostrate Cancer and you need some advice feel free to pm me and i'll be more than happy to point you in the right direction or give you some pointers on what too expect.

Best of luck with the recovery Scotty and thanks for the frank descriptions and encouraging us to get checked out. I lost my father and my best mate recently so I'm always glad to hear of a cancer beating story. keep it up

Sorry to hear of your loss of your Father and your best mate, but i hope it is a good sign for you to get checked out yourself, and push the message to other mates and workmates. The earlier the detection the better chance of recovery and treatment.

Thanks Scotty, my father waited too long and had too much surgery when it was too late , my mate believed the first DR's advice than he just needed some Panadol. We probably do more research and are less trusting with our cars than our own health.
A very large percentage of Dr's are incompetent. I was put on medication that is known to damage your liver but it never occurred to the Dr to monitor my liver function. It's my own fault for doing no research and trusting someone else to look out for me. Looking after yourself isn't any easier than owning a 300zx, but its not any harder either just got to do a bit of reading and a bit of cross checking.

Sorry to hear your not well yourself. But don't always believe what your read on Google either. Best advice is to always get 2nd or 3rd opinions and even get in contact with the support groups.

Hopefully you will be in better shape than your 300zx sooner rather that later.
