Hi guys, long time no see and such.

Just putting the word out that my Z got stolen from Knox Shopping Centre in Wantirna this afternoon, Burgundy Aus Spec, now with a missing driver's window and Aus300zx.com stickers on the 3/4 windows.

Yeah, fully insured and such so it's not the end of the world. Not great though.

The car they used to get there was left next to where it was so I assume it's going to get thrashed to where ever they go next and dumped.

Hi guys, glad to see you are still about.

The car was recovered on Sunday night, from what I gather there is no obvious damage other than the smashed window. Given that it has been missing for 7 days despite the minimal obvious external damage I don't think I really want it back. The car they dumped when they took mine looked fine on the outside but showed a few subtle signs of being driven pretty hard, little bits of tyre rubber on one of the mud guards and such. That was just a basic 80s 4 door Skyline sedan so it's probably a pretty safe bet if they drove that hard the Zed got a serious flogging. I quit taking it to track days a few years ago do I didn't end up driving a flogged out car so I'm not too keen on driving a flogged out car anyway with out the fun of flogging it out myself.

The other issue that worries me ( and really frightens my wife) is that it was found only a few kms from our home and in an area we are often near of passing through and given that it was missing for a full week we have no idea what it has been used for but it's probably not just taking grandma to church so I think there is a reasonable concern that it has been used for some pretty dubious stuff which may well have made it a target for other dubious people.

I've not heard back from the insurance company yet, hopefully given that it has been doing god-knows-what for a full week they want nothing more to do with it but the lack of much visible external damage and they valued it higher than I expected when I initially made the claim (they were going to pay out $11300 if it was not recovered, honestly I was expecting $7-9k) I worry they will decide to repair it.

That's terrible Pete, good it's found but never the same when it's been flogged by some unknown scum. I know the feeling all too well when my previous Integra got stolen. If you do decide to fix it all the power to you. If they've valued your car at $11k, assuming it's minor cosmetic damage they may just choose to fix it. Do you have choice of repairer?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TK103B-...326543?hash=item1ed919344f:g:OWEAAOSwpIdW7AHv

even has a microphone so you can listen in to whats happening inside the car

I started my second PM conversation since the new software (the furst one was to check which state someone was selling parts) because FireHorse and I bought a similar model of vehicle tracker. TK103 they do what they say using GPS and 2G, but the sellers can be a bit vague on their specifications nowadays. They will reply that their product supports the correct frequencies in Australia, but they don't specifically answer whether a 3G or 4G only sim will work. Australian 2G frequencies have been repurposed for 3G/4G. Ebay sellers know that some of these devices only have the much cheaper 2G modem on board. vodafone will switch off their 2G service very soon, so these 2G only trackers must be upgraded.
The only function that still works is the recorded log of where your car has been, but that can only be downloaded from the device, not through the phone network.

PS. Anyone using a 3G tracker that was good value and works well?

    Best of luck with everything.
