Facebook kills forums. I'm on "many" car forums and they're all pretty dead tbh, other than the few die hards.

I drop in now and again, but there's not a lot new going on, so don't really contribute. Only really in the non-zed related. These old girls have been floating around for 30 years now, almost every question has been answered multiple times, and theres really no new development on the car to spark an interest.

Andymac, agree with everything you say and there may not be a lot of new info here for you, but we are relying on you old dogs to teach and get your rewards from the feeling of helping someone who's about to make all the same mistakes you guys made 15 years ago.. It's better to give than receive, depending on your preferences i guess

fair points, however all those "mistakes" are documented already so anyone can just use the search function. I think that's more what Andy was eluding to rather than a lack of willingness to help.

Even back in the more active days, MOST noobie questions were swiftly met with "use the search function".

I found this rude to begin with, but as time marched on, and you see the same questions asked over and over again, I too saw how the old timers would lose patience.

Now if someone were doing something new, and untried, like throwing a Ferrari 360 engine into a mid/rear mounted custom setup in a 300ZX widebody shell, that may generate some interest.

But I stand by initial comment. Facebook has killed the forums. We get out communication hit in other places now.

I can't fathom the lack of events though tbh, and can only assume that:
    1) They're not happening
    or
    2) They're all being organised on Facebook (which i dont use).

And I agree with some of your points but if this is going to simply be a database it will be dead before Xmas. Been to a library lately? People want to communicate. Do a search is the biggest load of shit I ever heard. Why even post that, just be honest, say I’m currently stroking myself. Something easily read is rarely easily written. Not enough skill to take the whole topic and nail it in a concise logical summary?then post a link or just keep stroking.

Still here Ron. Still have my Zed and cherish it as always. But yeah, the forum is a bit ghost townish these days. Lots of people now on state specific or group specific Facebook groups. I can't even remember the last time I went to a tech day, and 95% of the cruises I attend these days are all with other clubs such as NDSOC or Drivemasters.

Ah you remind me of me when I was new to the forums.

    Good times. Good times.

I'm sure if I used the search, I'd find an old post by me, stating pretty much the same thing.

I'd often rant about how the forum is more than just a resource, it's a community.

I wonder if Facebook will survive the latest controversies. Well I'm sure it will 'survive' but whether it will have the same mass appeal.... I know I certainly don't use it anymore (and that was before the latest controversy).

This forum just needs to play to its strengths and hang in there. I sure hope the traditional style and popularity of internet forums makes a come back. Facebook, its platform and all its 'in your face' ads suck!

I remember many events back in the day. BBQ's at centennial gardens and people's houses, tech days, almost monthly something was organised. Even after I went all euro-fanboy I still enjoyed getting under a zed fixing the "bastard" hose.

Facebook will survive. They will evolve and adapt, and at the end of the day, the majority of the world, proof is in their continual use of face book, is happy to give up their privacy in exchange for gratification from people artificially paying an interest in their lives and the pretense that anyone cares about their public keyboard opinions.

Stats are out there for facebook, basically seems like anyone who cares about privacy either already left or uses it with appropriate obfuscation as their user base barely even flinched.

They were the days.. 15 zeds down the street. most to spend the night because we didn't get shit done. I used to love hosting because I was lazy and got to get drunk but would then have to deal with the shitty newb that didn't have the gasket he needed before we spent 5 hours getting the plenum off.

I also just finished watching X-men again and I feel like this is one of those moments to be like "its good to see you old friend" except my body works from the waist down ;)

You'll never be done... we both know this...

Mate call us when you even get to 500 posts or your engine crane has killed more Japanese than a Josh Harnet. I mean do you even AutoSalon bro?.

Until then your opinion has as much life to it as this forum does.

And if you come back with a "who even is this guy?".... then buddy....

    ....use the search function.

Autosalon would have made millionaires out of upholsterers and those importing white vinyl for a period in the early 00's

Does your mum know you're on the internet this late? I mean its a school night and all.
