Hi, I'm just about to renew my water pump but I have noticed the crankshaft is weeping a bit of oil (but nothing falling to the ground yet). My car has done over 150,000 kilometers so I thought I would more or less do another 100,000k service. The belt was changed at 100,000 but I don't think anything else was. Anyway I noticed in the manual that they request you remove the oil pump to change the crankshaft seal! This is a big job but I can only think they ask it to be done because one might damage the oil pump casing if it done without removing it. What is the best way of doing this job? Could you damage the casing installing the seal. By the way what is the best way of removing the five oil seals without damaging the associated shaft surfaces. Thanks if anyone can help. Cheers. Clive.
You don't need to remove the oil pump ...>> but you need to remove the crank sprocket and they usually seize themselves on. Have a look at these Front Main Seal Tech tips
