    Mate you ARE me :D

Thats EXACTLY my take on off-street drag racing. I want to know what my STREET car can do, not what my street car can do if i pull all the seats out, throw on slicks, up the boost to 2million PSI, and throw in some NOS

    hehe

We are very much alike me thinks :D

Why such low expectations? 12's is a great run for the minimal mods he has so I'm not taking anything away from it, but utimately it's still not all that fast for a Z.

10s-11s should be your goal! :p

    lol

    2 words

    "limited budget" :D

but more than that, I just want it to be FAST, but still perfectly streetable.

I'll save my dreams of "10 second car" for the next time I dust of my FnF dvd :p :zlove:

Friend of mine had a FC RX7 with custom Twin Turbo install. He ran 11's. hardly ever drove the car on the street as said it just wasn't that streetable anymore.

    Sold it.

Haha, not because of that stupid movie! But 10s is a super quick street car. Although it's hilarious seeing how shit slow it is during the breaks of the door slammers and top fuels haha! It looks like slow motion!

Just pipping a high 11 though is very impressive, it all comes down to the driver though. I know there are lots of ppl around with way more mods that this dude that dont run that quick so it's still impressive none the less.

    Agreed on the driver part.

I know I've bitched about my car running 14.02, and sure it does have issues, but I was also new to the car at the time of running.

I've since learned that getting the best from the 300ZX 2+2 is MUCH diferent than driving my old 180sx, and that day at the plex, I was driving it like I'd have driven the 180sx.

I reakon even without "fixing" I could now run a better time.

    You live. You learn.

I owned the 180sx for almost 2 years before I ran her.

I owned the Zed for about 2 months lol

Yeah 14's is pretty slow, a stock Z31 turbo with zorst upgrade and the boost kicked up a notch will still run high 13s @ 100mph.

I wouldn't let that shit discourage you though, some cars can take a hammering on the strip but arent tuned appropriately to drive on the street and vice versa. It takes a lot of effort to get a car to run consistantly at the strip, then drive home in it! :p There's alot of variables. A 3rd gear rolling start is a good measure car vs car for those who cant launch! lol

Excellent 60 foot time for street tyres

    Another question...

Did you "warm up the tyres" (burn out)

I always go round the burnout pad coz I was lead to believe its not worth it on street tyres, but be interested to know if that was part of your method

I'm interested in this too. I also think it's a waste of time with street tyres but happy to be proven wrong.

yes I do a burnout ever time I stage up, I start in third gear and go for about 4=5 seconds just, they smoke up pretty wel instantly, and I have to get the rev just right, about 5000 grand and of i go, I had a look though my slips and found one with a 1.789 60ft time ^^ so yes I think a quick BO helps a lot but dont go to much or they will get slimey

do you launch in first gear? what sort of revs off the line, I found there to be a fine line between total wheel spin/bogging down/and a good launch. 36 psi in the tyre's probably didn't help things.
