    hehe sweet :D

    Parents are great.

Well good on ya for being a full time student and still owning 2 zeds while paying "some" rent and paying all your bills like electric and gas and water rates and stuff.

Still not easy by any means.

But yeah... for most people, its just a little harder than that ;)

"if your responsible you can do it"

No truer words have been said.

I had my Z and bought my house at age 21. No help from parents. Lots of saving. Worked 2 jobs, shot ahead of the pack early. Now 23 and glad I got in when I did, as most (decent) properties are unaffordable now.

well cos of the cost of living by self, my zed has sat in shed for 2 months now, unable to afford the new tailshaft and other $hit that is required to get it back running, let alone keep the insurance up to date...

tis a shame cos i love da zed, but once it fixed i think she might av to go

wise words to save. wasn't much of a saver when i was younger and i regret it now. even if i had tucked away 10%, i wouldn't have noticed it and it would have helped me out a lot. when you do decide that you want to do something, make it a lot easier to have something there.

having said that, the ex-wife would have probably spent all that savings anyway, but.... got myself on track now. will have my mortgage paid off in about 3 years. new missus and i are putting 4k a month on the morg and i still get some money to play around with the zed. you need a balance.

i just keep in mind that in 4 years time, i can put 50% away and have 2k a month to do something with. rebuild and beet body kit time! oh yeah!

accumulate wealth over time, i went off to some free centre link courses about super, financial management etc and they were a good starting point. having the knowledge and thinking about your options is handy.

its hard when you are young and on low wages, but do you want to work until you are 65? work out at what age you want to retire, work out how much you need and make some calculations. i'm on track for retiring at 50.

fail to plan, plan to fail :)

    but yeah.... seriously, good advice.

    renting vs buying

I rea;;y dont understnad the argument that renting is better than buying, why is it that people who but a house for 3 or 4 hundred thousand think they are on a much higher social plane than people who rent .

Techincally their net position is minus 400k, where as the renter is 0 .

Stuff your capital gains. it is only your kids who benefit from the value of the family home.

    Ill keep renting thanks

im 18 and i have a zed (actually got it when i was 17) and yes, my parents did buy it and they pay for half my insuarance, half my rego and a tank of fuel a month (pretty sweet deal :D :D ). i work at kmart on weekends tofill the gaps, buy parts for the zed and other cool things (for example im travelling to japan with a bunch of mates in june this year).

now i will concede that i am spoilt and some people will probably resent me because of it, but my logic is, before i get out of uni and get a half decent job there is absolutely no point trying to save what will seem like spare change when i get a full time job as an engineer (for example last financial year i earnt $7000, i will earn this in a month when i go work in the mines) so for the time being im will continue live it up and blow what money i have before i have to worry about silly things like a mortgage, wife and kids.
