at Amec... Very nice guys there! Emmanuel is coming in early tommorrow to work on it so hopefully the water pump will be in and I can catch u guys at the formal cruise Thanks for your help guys!
Update on the Zed Since I don't really have much of an idea, I'll write exactly what Emmanuel told me: The cam seals are weeping but there is one leaking in particular. He said they were trying to get it off but it was stuck on with loctite(?). Then he said because of that the crank pulley has seized? No idea! Hopefully I get it back tommorrow. He left it soaking in Rust Kill(?) overnight... Yeah I know, I still got a lot to learn
I'm going around to Amec this morning to pick up a headlight switch as mine keeps falling out. I'll have a look for you while i'm there and let you know what i see. What colour is your ride???
He just rang... It'll be ready at lunch! Emmanuel: 'Hello is that Dinesh?' Me: '*Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn* wassappenin... *stretch* oooohhhhhhsismahcarready... thanksman *drool* *sleep*'
D'oh... The is a bit long... So the story so far: 1: Car starts overheating... Temperature stays pretty high. 2: Took the car to Ultratune and they rodded(?) the radiator and installed a new tank. Cost = $390. 3: Coolant starts leaking out heaps whenever I stop the car. Ultratune informs me that water pump needs replacing and quotes me $490. 4: I call around and get Emmanuel at Amec to fix it all up for me. He says cool and I am happy! 5: I pick up the car today and the bill is: Genuine Water Pump - $148.27 Genuine Thermostat - $38.50 Cam and Crank Seals - $70.15 By-pass Hoses - $25.24 300zx Top Radiator Hose - $74.98 300zx Bottom Radiator Hsoe - $118.80 Coolant - $24.04 Workshop Materials - $20 Remove and Replace Seized Crank Gear - $132.00 Carry out above repairs - $330 Total??? $981.98 Ouch!!! Emmanuel was really nice though and Amec kept me informed of everything that was going on. I'm glad I got all these things done however! I drove out of Amec and the car was running like well... poo... It's doing a couple of things: - There is a significant loss of power i.e. it drives like a camry - The exhaust keeps popping (backfiring?) - The clutch for taking off etc feels different - It stalled a couple of times - It sounds different too I rang Emmanuel back and he things it might be the PTU or the CAS, someone else suggested it might be the timing?
Ouch indeed! Especially seeing as you weren't expecting such a bill. Did you get a quote before you left the car there or an indication of the price over the phone? Also, for other's information rodding and recapping my radiator cost me $120 from my local radiator shop. Well worth doing before summer creeps up on us.
If it drove in there OK, then 99.999% likely just a loose electrical connection accidentally bumped during the cooling sys service. (very easily done! As Emmanual said, check CAS or PTU connections ... should be easily fixed. A consult can isolate the prob immediately. If you don't have one, I can do no probs...
i am a little retarded in these matters ... what i do not understand is that you have just paid $980 for a "FIX" and yet it was left to you to drive out of the workshop and find that the zed was driving like a packet of poo ..??? sorry ..but if i had paid that much ( and it was after the ultatune stuff up ), the least that i would expect would be that the repairers, whoever they may be, would have undertaken a test drive to confirm that all was well ... i would NOT/NOT be amused ...!!!!
Take it back to them Its their warranty you void if someone else plays with it,its easy to knock some thing when working on a Zed that may not show up on a quick test drive. Its usually a real quick fix.
To be fair, bumping the CAS or PTU wiring is almost certainly going to happen anytime you have the rad out/work done on front of engine. The fact that Neshy's electrical connections were poor to begin with is not Emmanual's fault in my opinion and bumping them is just going to happen...
and to be fair to AMEC, I was there sat morning, and Emmanuel was good enough to commit part of his weekend to working on getting Dinesh's car running again. not many of us here commit themselves to working on weekends. I know Emmanuel, and he is a genuine guy, and getting our cars running right is his no 1 priority. If he does make a mistake, then he makes it right, no charge.
by the way Dinesh, just take it back, I'm sure there will be no charge to get it running right again.
done what again exactly? we all know Chewy's story, and how I successfully proved that AMEC was not at fault. Other than that, at the end of the day, I think you will find that AMEC customers are happy customers. except for Chewy.
Seems everytime someone takes the car to AMEC they leave with more problems Your right, who am i to judge a service i haven't used. But whenever i hear the name AMEC it alwasy ends in a shitfight. If it's as simple as bumping one of the connectors. I'd have thought that would be something double checked before returning the vehicle to the owner. And why is it that everyone was down at AMEC on Saturday anyways:wacko: guess that means 1 of 2 things. 1.You are all still having problems. which sounds to be the go. 2. Your getting upgrades or more mods. Doesn't seem like thats whats happening though. Like i said, I haven't experienced their services iv'e got no idea what i'm talking bout. Sean.
OK, quit bagging the guy... What Zforlife said... Everyone knows that 90% of mechanics rip people off, I know Emmanuel, and have had work done by him.. he seems like a genuine sort of fellow! Quit bagging him, Or i will SMASH YOU ALL !!! (oops)
