Just after some advice here. I have a stone chip in my windscreen that I want to get rid of by replacing the windscreen entirely, a set of new windscreen mouldings that I want to put on, and a lifted dash.

I've heard that the best way to fix the dash is with the windscreen out... but what would be the best order to do all this? Remove the windscreen myself, fix the dash, then call for a windscreen guy and get him to install the new mouldings for me when putting it back together?

Also, do the moundlings & cowls (LH and RH under the wipers) have to be removed when the glass is replaced?

    Any help would be appreciated.

not exactly sure how easy it is to remove windscreen, but if you can manage ok what you've suggested seems the best order of operation.

cowls will need to be removed, but that's not difficult. you may want to replace them while you're there if they're a bit perished. pretty sure mouldings will have to come off.

Probably best off getting the windscreen mob to remove the glass for you (may be able to get them to come to your place to do it), fix the lifted dash yourself then get them back out to put the new windscreen in.

I had the screen smashed on the 280ZX. I got Windscreens O'Brien to come and replace it. The guy took the smashed one out, but refused to put the new one in as there was too much rust down the bottom. No problems, he left and I bogged it up the next couple of days. He then came back and put the new screen in - no extra cost.

If you remove the windscreen, get a pro to

reinstall it. The windscreen when glued in correctly actually provides a lot of structural rigidity in the body and should not be attemped without the right tools, adhesive and someone who is experienced.

I have replaced windscreens before myself not problem but on a car such as a zed with targa roof, you need every bit of structural rigidity to workk 100%.

You'll find if you ring around, people like O'Briens etc won't charge much at all to come to you and do the job for you. They can replace the upper rubber strip as well. Perhaps you could get the screen out yourself but get them to refit it.

    Looks like it's a semi-DIY job then!

Yeah, I've had windscreens replaced before, and I wouldn't attempt to install it myself. I suppose I'm just trying to avoid having to arrange for 2 separate visits to remove and install the glass, as I want the time inbetween to glue down my dash.

I'll have a go at removing all trim and pulling the glass out myself, then call for the install of the new screen.

Any advice from those that have removed their windscreen before?
