    could be many reasons.

what boost you running? stock ecu? what other mods?

Thats problably because your car doesn't produce that much power

complared to all the people who complain about their pinging, whose cars r probably on the edge!

if there's a noticable lack of power i'd say your car is doing what

it's supposed to do - the knock sensor is picking up the first hints of detonation and putting it onto the richer, less advanced maps and cutting the boost to 7 psi (if you're turbs i didn't check).

cat back, pod, 14 psi just to name a few things, boost done by an ebc..

    would be pushing 200rwkw+

Find the steepest hill you can find

slow to 30-40km/h and then shift into 5th gear and floor it. Theres your pinging :)

Seriously I wouldn't start to assume that the car runs just as well on 95octane. The difference may just be inaudiable for normal driving conditions but inside there could still be pinging you cant hear. I see you have an aftermarket exhaust which might drown out some pinging that perhaps could otherwise be heard? With your lack of power is that because the cars running safety boost? (maybe thats why your not hearing it anymore?)

Stick with the 98 anyway

let me make it clear, the car is running 14 psi regardless of 95 or 98

what exactly would i be looking for because it did notice the car was making some unusual noises that ive never heard before..

    98 is not available everywhere

95 should still be okay (compared to 98, not the best but still okay), but its not good if car was tuned for 98 octane fuel.

cos every damn zed is different.... thats one I've learnt

if you want pinging, come and see me...

thankfully these days its fixed, but in the past... geee's

also, my UniChip is tuned for 98 octane. On normal days (temp around mid 20's) I can use 95 octane and have no pinging... on the way to berri, no 98 octane, so I had to put in some 95 (stupid me forgot to bring some octane booster for country driving). Aircon on, 32-34 ambient temp, and the car would ping ever so slightly... put some 98 octane in at Mildura, pinging gone...

so more zeds are sensitive to it than others, but assuming everything on your engine is fine (no code 34, and not low compression) then be happy you havent been visited by the ping gremlins...

    Cheers

Not sure with your EBC, but with a unichip the X-Controller (the unichip's boost controller) removes the ECUs control over safety boost ie NO SAFETY BOOST.

So it is possible your car could still have 14 PSI, but retarded timing and richer fuel if your det sensor pick up pinging. Power loss would only be slight, maybe not enough to really notice.

    Just a thought anyway

Higher octane just allows you to advance the timing further to get more power. If the timing is correct for 95 ron fuel putting 98 in it will not give you more power.

Therefore your ECU and base timing seems to be running 95 ron perfectly. If the ECU maps where optimized for 98 you would get pinging alright.

Listen to what shifter said. He is 100% right. I bet I could make it ping for you!
