i've been searching far and wide for drag related suspension for zeds with not much success. i can get 90/10 shocks for the front easy enough but then im stuck with the one setup if i decide to go for a squirt around a circuit every once in a while. so i was wondering, if i get a set of coilovers with separate bump and rebound adjustment like these, http://www.justjap.com/store/product.php?productid=19781&cat=422&page=7 would they work in the same fashion as a 90/10 shock?
wouldn't those spring rates be to hard for drag? I thought they normally ran softer rates? Could always get some HKS Hiper-Drag coilovers.
It seems that typical soft rear ends don't work too well with zeds. Ask they guys who have run quick times what they used.
the old school racers and muscle car guys run like 8kg springs in the rear to stop them axle tramping, dunno about the front but surely they wouldn't be softer. i like the price of the 'brand new' BC coilovers too.
you need softer suspension for drags. BUT you also have to remove aa fair bit of the anti squat to make the weight transfer properly on launch. Removing antisquat involves cutting and rewelding some of the location points for the rear lower control arms. NO coilovers are really that good at the drags. Look at a good system of shockers and lighter springs.
You actually WANT the anti squat functionality tho... This has been covered many times already on the forum and elsewhere also... As covered here: http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-293357.html Makes sense after some reading tho...
The Z32 has a massive amount of antisquat. Look at the angle of the rear lower control arms. I have never seen a Z32 launch properly with stock suspension angles.
do mean what Black Beast and JP have done to their rear subframe? thats pretty extreme. what is it about coilovers that makes them not so great for the strip?
yes both of them and myself have modded the subrame to reduce but NOT remove antisquat. If you can get the correct spring rates they could be OK. BUT most reasonable priced coil overs have stupid hard springs.
ah you too hey. that looks lke a very involved job. for the front, i guess it would be a case of buying different rate springs and changing them over until the right ones are found, but then i suppose you could do the same with stock struts hey.
stock suspension I know it's not particularly fast , But on my last 11 runs at the Drags , The stock suspension has been able to hold every pass , all have been 1.60-1.68 60 foot times , and Wizards car has been in the 1.5's . That said im not sure how much more they will cop? http://www.blacktrack.com.au/gallery/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=185012 http://www.blacktrack.com.au/gallery/index.php?do=photocart&viewImage=184908
