    Hey mate,

It's interesting you say that. Personally, I don't think the NAs are worth that much from a monetary perspective. The autos are especially sluggish and don't kick down quickly enough. They're not going to be worth much in the long term either.

BUT. I buy on emotion when it comes to my toys. I've got a TT but I've been considering getting an NA as a daily driver too. Given that I do lots of city driving, an auto isn't out of the question. NAs are cheap and a bit cheaper to insure. They still look good as you've already mentioned.

    Long live the NA.

Great story too. I can tell you're a long time Z fan. :)

1999, was working for my Father in-law's Tree Lopping business. Was doing a job for a wealthy guy he knew, when finished he invited us under his house to see his twin turbo "Fairlady" he had just imported. I had no idea what car he was talking about as back then I hated imports & had no interest

I'll never forget walking underneath his house very uninterested, but when my eyes adjusted from the sunlight a freakin' schmick gunmetal grey 2+0 TT Slicktop lay before me, better than any Skyline, Silvia, 180SX etc by a long shot, "HOLY F@#CK, this has to be the most beautiful vehicle I have EVER seen" I said to my father in law.

I remember dreaming about that car for a long time & finally ten years later my wife & I are the proud owners of a silver grey 2+0 TT Slicktop, not perfect but a work in progress that's for sure! Have plans to purchase a 2+2 TT next year maybe & hold onto the both of them for life if possible.

    so true.

    About the Z:

"once again beautiful, so sleek and tight and shimmering that it still looks great ten years after it went away" -Automobile, 2006

I wonder how good the Bugatti Veyron will look in ten years time?

i saw one in a shopping center and didnt pay much attention to it..

about 2 years after that (was about 13) i saw one drive past us (mum was driving) and i was like that looks HOT!! loved the back, loved the exhaust (quad exhausts facing up)..
    http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=298731

    fell in love..

turned 16 and started looking for cars... always wanted a zed.. nothing else mattered.
went for a family holiday at 17, and in my spare time there trolled carsales/carpoint for a 300zx.. nothing really caught my eyes..

got back to aust and still kept looking for one.. narrowed it down to 2 zeds.. strangely both white.. wanted a darker colour at the time.

didnt know anything about zeds and went to have a look at it.. had modenas on it and a kamanari spoiler.. thought they where stock.

kind of rushed into buying it as.. parents said.. " do you want to buy it or not? stop wasting their time" so stupidly i said yes because i wanted a zed.

got it.. got my license.. crashed it 2 weeks after i got my licence.. got it fixed up...

overheated, started running rough, clutch gone.. alot of money was spent on it to get it back up to good condition.. even though the outside of it was crap.
it didnt matter as every time i got into it.. the drive made it all worth while...

got it running pretty well... no weird noises, ran smoothly though the rev range.. and my friend goes and crashed it for me...

parted it out and didnt think much about it..

now im thinking of buying one in the near future and doing something insane to it...
still want a white zed, i want one because on the zed eastlink cruise i was the only white zed there.. all where grey/red/black/silver... i felt good owning the only white zed....

    mmmmm.. good times....

i think im going to go jump on carsales now and look for one..

For me it was a mate introducing me to import websites and it was one of the best looking cars available imho (and still is). The more i found out about them the more I loved and wanted one.

When did i start falling out of love? When i owned one lolz ;)

Na jokes. Had many many "love/hate" moments in the 2 years I had one.

I'd come back to a MINT example in the future I think. But only if it was MINT inside and out, and only if I had other toys to play with along side it.

    Timeless cars imho.

VERY LONG but how i fell in love with the zed and first days of ownership....

First fell in love with the 95?? Anniversary edition when I saw the TV commercials for them. I was 16 at the time. I had a poster of one on my wall growing up alongside a 993 turbo and I always thought the zed looked better.
Years went past and I always thought they were out of reach until the import scene began and I was looking through what was then a new car magazine called High Performance Imports. I realized then that I could possibly get one (20 ish in 99) so I started doing some serious research. I found aus300zx and asked a heap of questions before putting some money aside from my job every week. Agonizing over the purchase of an import I decided to personally import one through a broker. I had one guy look for me for 2 months. He had a few personal imports he tried to get me into and I had already paid the deposit for one ($3000). I was VERY particular about what I wanted. Minimal mods, 2 seater, TT, manual in Wine red in grade 4 with no accident history. This was after seeing a particularly nice one owned by a Jap importer in Perth. After 2 months of this guy stuffing me around and trying to get me into a Aztec red one that was rough which was blowing heaps of smoke, I pulled the pin and demanded a refund. I then called up John from Prestigemotorsport and told him what I wanted. He acknowledged the fact that what I was after was very rare. He sent me about 18 cars over the next 3 months. All the wrong colour. Finally he sent me an Aztec red one, in my price range, with a full Bomex kit, 17inch mesh wheels, exhaust, boost and an airbox. I decided to bid on it and I got a call whilst I was at work the next day. ?Mark, you have won the car, at a really good price too?.
It was then an agonizing wait for import approval, shipping and then getting the car through customs.
I went to pick up the car from the docks and was really shocked at what I had bought. On first impressions it was filthy, the dock workers had smashed the bar into 4 pieces getting it off the ship, the boost controller was stolen, and the clutch made a HORRIBLE rattle. It was the lowest thing I had ever seen too.
I climbed in thinking ?what the hell have I just bought,? looking down at the dash where the stereo should have been but was just a gaping hole with wires hanging out. I nervously turned the key and she roared to life. It idled like new. I gave it some revs and slowly drove out of the docks back to my compliance place. It was really responsive even without the controller. I couldn?t believe how snug and just right the cockpit felt, even though it felt like it had zero visibility out the back. I had never driven a rwd car before, let alone a turbo one. So I took it really easy on the way to the compliance place.
After 3 weeks at the compliance place I finally had the chance to get it registered and took the day off to get it to Vic roads. It was my girlfriends Uni ball that night and I desperately wanted to drive her there in it to impress her friends. After a few debates with the Vicroads staff (too low) and not being able to find the engine number (after being on the hoist twice), I was told to take it around the corner at the back of the complex. The manager came out to have a chat to me. It was Friday evening at 4.58pm. I will never forget it. He looked at the paperwork knowing I had been there 3 times today trying to get the thing through registration but was getting knocked back due to the engine number. He popped the bonnet and had a hard look underneath with a torch. ?Ok, So you definitely saw me check the engine number on this car right?? he said to the other vicroads officer, and it dawned on me what was going on. I never had a bigger smile on my face when he looked at me and started reading out some random numbers and said ?so you saw me check that number right?. I was elated. ?For sure man?. I said. ?Thanks Soooooooo much.?

Suffice to say, after 6 months of stuffing around, looking for the right car, getting stuck at vicroads and having problems with customs, the car was mine and registered, ready to drive my beautiful GF to her Uni ball. I drove it down to the carwash and gave it a massive going over with my best mate. He took some photos of that first day on the road and I was wrapped. I knew then it had so much potential. Even though I didn?t have the cash yet, I knew I was going to make my zed into something special.

That night my GF drank a little to excess and almost christened the car in the most unattractive way.  I was quick in pulling over so she could open the door.
For the next 3 months I drove the car with no stereo, my ears being serenaded by the roar of the twin turbo six. The first wet day it snapped out under boost in second gear and crabwalked up the road for about 50mts. I knew then I had made the right purchase but also had to respect the power. I found out later that the noisy clutch was An OGURA twin plate and was VERY pricey. Happy about that. 
I adore it now and would never sell it. Even though it has a few flaws, it is probably the most involving, beautiful car I have driven.
