Gave the NA slicktop a much needed service today. Also pissed off the worn out adjustable Rose jointed adjustable swaybar links and replaced them with some good stock links.
Prolly only 0.015" movement in them but as clunky as hell inside the cabin. Good riddance I say.
Also swapped the worn Urethane swaybar bushes and replaced them with stock rubber items. All nice and tight now and no more clunks and bangs...yay!

While the car was up, I measured up and made a list of stuff I need for a new exhaust system.
The current twin system sounds really fantastic, despite being made up out of a combination of 3", 2.5" and 2.25" bits and bobs cobbled together, straight thru center mufflers and and Lukey 2.5" mufflers out back but has several cracks and leaks and is not worth repairing!

Ive always preferred the sound of a single system so Im going to make a pair of 2.5" dumps off the extractors, merged just behind the gearbox to a 3" single system, one 3" highflow cat, a center in/side out straight thru mid muffler just in front of the diff and a 3" rear side in/center out rear muffler.
I dont particularly like the sound of stainless so this system will be all mandrel/mild steel. Im hoping it should sound similar to the Ute Of Death which I really like.

Also, I finally added the ally splash trays made by Glenn (Mungyz) at The Lab Limited.

Ya gotta love having ur own hoist tho. It's worth every cent I spent on the hoist and the concrete slab I put in for the purpose!!!!!!
NEVER again will I lay under a car in the dirt.........

Nope. Just had enough time to rewire the injector connectors and 5 others, but now the whole engine bay connectors are done.

Oh and I wrapped some other amp wiring in tubing to restore the stock look to the engine bay. Another weekend down.

That hoist looks good. Is it outside? Will it rust?

Car doesn't look bad like you talk it up to be. Single exhaust sounds great I agree. Using stainless?

Hey, I am new to the forum and I wanted to ask a simple question... at home we have a 2+2 TT with 400 atw and my personal z which is an N/A 2+0 slicktop. I am very impressed with the performance of my N/A it keeps up with a VE SSV ute, with mild mods (exhaust) infact it has the exact same straight line performance even at high speeds (200 still next to him on private road), it does 0-100 in 6.5 sec but thats not what surprises me its after 100, it doesn't slow down. My question is what kind of mods could the past owner have done to make it perform like this? it doesn't make sense to me people say there slow?

NA's are not slow, they just suck. (NA joke)TT cars are just blowhard's. :D
The VG motor come in two types. They either perform or not there's no in between.
    I have 2x NAs.

Got Kitty out of the shed and started final preps for ZedFest.

Took it for a nice long drive. drag radials on the street is the best performance tyre period. Grips like nothing and just smashes you in the seat whilst spilling my coffee.

Started to remove oem fuel pump to fit walbro 485. Also started to remove AC for hectic weight reduction.

Got some solid tube fittings for my nitrous to make the install neater than braided AN everywhere.

Umm.. well technically the hoist is not an outdoor type. here arent many areas on it that are not powdercoated so rust doesnt really happen.
I have the plastic bin over the drive section to keep water out and same on the other side.

The car is fundamentally reasonable but your not seeing the faded and chipped paint, rust around the screen and the glass in the hatch and sundry, dings and cracked front bar blah!!!!

However, (much to Jonos disgust) Im a function over form man and such issues, which to some are akin to heresy, to me are nothing at all and dont detract from the actual operation of the car at all.

I get the aesthetic thing tho and appreciate visually beautiful cars but i dont subscribe to that direction at all!!!!

VE SS will out 60 a na zed day in day out and will run 13.4 in quarter... That's quicker than a TT. Your mates a terrible driver or something was wrong with the car.

straight line you statiscally have nothing to bring against a ve ss. They are slow.

haha maybe but still very impressed makes no sense to me when people say there slow, then say a ve ssv is fast?

Well like everything in life that view point is subjective. I know of someone who runs 6's and he would most likely yawn at a 10 second pass. In today's street car world I would say 11's is quick street car. 10's is ok and 8's are the new 9's.

Those heavy holdens have torque and with a few slight mods get moving really quickly. There really is no replacement for displacement.

    Look at the stats

Ve ss is doing 13.4 and your doing 14.5 if you can pedal like nem on here. That's a massive difference.

Do you have a drag strip close by? You and your freind should go and put some numbers on the board. Compare those numbers. You will visually see why people say his is fast and your is "slow". Please don't take this as a put down. Just the reality of it.

Yeah pretty much this, the only time I ever "kept up" with an ss was when he got a shit launch but after 100kph the power difference is apparent.

Bit of a random update but got my rearmount/compound turbo mani tacked up ready for welding... :D

Spent the day working on a high idle problem. Removed the iaa and gave it a good clean and test, found corroded terminal pins so cleaned them up and got it all working normally again. Tps wouldn't hold base voltage at idle so drilled that sucker open and cleaned it back to health. Found that the tps is not a properly sealed unit and will accumulate filth in there. Mine was only faulty because a small amount of crud was shorting the potentiometer track, so a few sprays of electrical contact cleaner sorted it out.

Car now runs a lot better, shifts more easily and most importantly idles properly again.

Depressing day today, I removed my rear centre panel to finally install the EL tape I bought in a group buy in 2007 to repair my OEM illuminated panel. Not only did I crack the panel pulling it apart, the tape is too narrow for the job anyway :bash:

I'll be redoing this little project with a new centre panel from Coz. Managed to get the old one back together so at least I can use the car, just hope it doesn't leak too much. The OEM panel has a 300ZX stencil glued to the inside so hopefully I can get it off to use on the new one.

Taken it off the road :(

Some A$$H0L3 tradie's tape measure flew off his ute and smashed my front windscreen. then he had the gaul to say it wasn't his...

Near lost my cool big time, deep scratched my bonnet, smashed my screen and unfortunately my insurance wont cover it.

    Not a happy camper.

So shes going to sit under the cover for a few weeks.
RACT are doing me a discounted price on a new screen, so its not all bad news i guess!
