    found this

I reckon the height and angle of that screen would have been impossible to read through glare.. I can't even read my temp gauges in that same spot...

    Cool thought though.
    thought I might share

I'm impressed with the renderings but seriously Wayne sketch up is Microsoft paint in 3d mate.

Fun to play with but useless. Kinda like tits on a man. Lmfao.

I'll dig out the modifications you need for inventor if you like. But I did say earlier you need windows 8.1
    ..
Not 8 it won't work at all.

Also as a side note solidworks outputs direct to stl files as well for 3d printing. Any autodesk product you need a third party conversion software

    Digging the enthusiasm tho.

Let me know when you upgrade to 8.1 I'll dig out the info for inventor install.

    Trust me, I know!

this part is just for a bit of fun :)
like an adult, 3d colouring book of Z's...

I had such a terrible week last week trying to install probably at least 10 different CAD programs.. every single one either had a problem downloading, had DLL errors, wanted me to re download several times or just didnt want to work on windows 8... So i settled for a little fun rendering

I've got 2 major assignments due this week so I've put installation errors on the back burner.. nothing in the files I have are usable anyway because they are no where near accurate models..

to all those on the forum who already know how to do what I'm trying to do and shaking their head at my incompetence,, I apologize.

this thread definately got a lot more attention than i originally thought it would. I was anticipating maybe one or two comments regarding people interested in some alternatives for the stereo fascia design. but it quickly showed a few members already have some well thought out ideas for creating an interactive interface out of the stereo surround..

I also noticed this topic came up back in 2012 i think, but that was only a short thread. I'll let this thread sit for a while, and i'll get up to speed with some software and options for 3d scanning.

    Apparently I have 8.1.
could you pm me what info you have for it?
I haven't been able to install from the autodesk website or even a cd install with the key i got from autodesk.

I managed to convert that .obj file in to .step and finally opened it in inventor...
Facia looks folded to the passenger side (don't know if you will see it on the image but it does)

Haven't done much with it... Only Projected Geometry for the object bottom bit...

Model is scaled down big time after conversion... total with of the car is 1.8mm so I will need to check dimensions of the car to see if it is any scale that can be easily re-scaled back...

As for GPS signal ... My little Project few years back on Subaru Liberty

Bottom Screen 7" monitor running Windows Xp and Centrafuse entrancement soft
Top Screen (Ebay El Cheapo) 7" Chinese GPS molded in to facia running Win CE5.0 (I would say that is early version of tablet)
However GPS antenna on top Screen is totally covered with dashboard and no signal is cumming to it... Only way to get the signal is to pool facia out.

One USB port which is combined charger... However I did't found any GPS receivers to work with WIN CE5.0 .. I must say that I wasn't trying hard but yeah...
It wouldn't be a task for anyone to try tapping in to USB cable "to give it external Power (5v and 12v)" while same cable plugged is in GPS receiver or Tablet.
You need to charge your Tablet so you will need power to it while in console.

I don't really like the look of huge flat screen siting vertically and I would't put it in my Z anyway but just giving you a heads up....

    Hey,

how is the software development going for something like this? those who are into that side of things?

I haven't bothered trying to set up any new software on windows 8, but it seems I get a free upgrade to windows 10 at the end of the month, so I am pretty happy about that.

if we put a screen in the centre to mimic something like the jeep setup

what sort of things could we have available on it?

    could it have:

    GPS
    DVD
    Diagnostics (link into ecutalk?)
    Reverse cam etc?
    MP3, MP4?

that's funny. the pic I chose was the Jeep trailhawk. I'mhoping to pick one up in a few weeks.

    alright cherubs.
ive organised scanning equipment through uni I'm picking up this week. hoping to scan the surround and a few other bits and pieces.

unfortunately the uni has only shit software so it might take more time to figure out how to produce usable models from the scans.

if anyone has a specific part they want scanned inbox me the part. nothing crazy like mechanical parts yet.

the uni is investinh in a metal printer. they already have titanium but only a small scale printer. so eventually printing metal parts would be possible.

sorry for the slow progress. i just had to finish another masters degree.
