Was it all a HUGE mistake?

I have been wanteed a Z32 since I saw my first one in 1991. I have just gone out and bought one a little over a week ago. I just want to say I LOVE MY Z!Last weekend: Drive from Melbuorne to Stawell, give the car a decent run on the highway. Run like a dream on the way up.On Saturday, some pissed idiot threw a rock through my rear window.:x Police *should* be charging him. Wake up next morning - someone has tried to break into my car. Not through the broken rear window. No, that would have been too easy. They have broken the drivers side door lock. So, I decide to get back to Melbourne ASAP (and then the storm hits). On the way back towards Melbourne, the car stalls (its an auto) and then when I restart it, it runs like it only got 3 cylinders firing. A warning light comes up on the dash (I didn't get an owners manual, so I don't know what it meant). It's dark, it's pouring down rain, I'm in the middle of nowhere, and then my mobile dies on me.I then drive the car another 40 kms to Ballarat (at about 20 kph), get a mate to meet me with a tandem trailer and tow it back to Melbourne. Took an hour in the pouring rain to get it up on the trailer without smashing the bumper or underbody.Am I the only person in the world that could have so much go wrong in such a short space of time?:`( Or is it just the curse of finally getting your dream car?:|

Mistake ? Nahh, a zed is just like a feline>

and it's just letting you know who's the boss.Best bet is to find a "honest" Zed mechanic (post on this forum for someone in your area). Then give them the keys and tell them to give it a thorough going over. Grin and bear it, don't skimp and get it done properly. Remember this was a $80K+ car when new ...it's going to cost you money, the only question is when so spend some money now on preventative mainenance, and enjoy it for longer later.:-Z Final note: Make sure you have the right mechanic. Good ones will want your ongoing business and not rip you off first time. Parts are not cheap but you can quickly find out from this forum if you are getting ripped off. I would personally only go to someone who was recommended at least twice by different forum members...

Not a mistake if it's your dream car >>>

there will always be things that go wrong with a 14 year old car. Some will be big, some will be small. Murphy's law says these occurrences will happen at midnight in the pouring rain 200km from home, though on occasion the Zed gods do smile on you. My Z's heater core chose to drop its guts of coolant the day after I got to Perth ... 2 days and 1500km earlier I would have been on the Nullarbor! As an aside, I noticed your occupation in your other thread. On that Melb-Perth-Melb drive, I was stopped by the constabulary no less than 8 times. Twice for 10-15km over the limit, once for an RBT where everyone was being checked, and 5 times for no good reason at all - but always breathalysed and licence checked. I was asked questions about my job etc etc, which are not normally asked in such circumstances. I was told later that a single person in a high powered sports car on a run like that was "cop bait" and they would have been sussing me out as a possible courier of illegal substances. Fair call, or was I just unlucky?

    Reliable Mechanics

The previous owner had it maintained and repaired by Spenser at Nissport in Braeside. I live near Knox and work in Springvale and was thinking of taking it back to them.I called them and just got what sounded like a home answering machine though?

I've heard very good things about Nissport

from members of this forum. And to me the problem sounds like it may be the well known series 1 PTU failure. Nissport should be able to sort it out for you though :)

Damn that Murphy guy and his law!

I work in an area that is renowned for drugs (Springvale) and I will admit that my boss came out into the mess room when I got my car, and asked why "the drug dealers car" was not with all the other seized/recovered cars. The other thing is that in every station in the state, there is a poster with information about seizing convicted drug dealers assets, etc. And on that poster, there is a red Z32 (the model car for drug dealers?)..!Personally I don't look at them any differently and I don't assume that you're a drug courier just by what you're driving. You aren't one are you??;) ;) }D

Im sure thats probably true. I deal drugs..

I deal them out all the time. In fact I probably deal out more grams of drugs in a week than most drug dealers push out in a month. When I was looking to buy my car, one of the red 300s I looked at belonged to a drug dealer also. At least he very much looked like a drug dealer and was even on home detention with one of those locator things around his ankle. Hence he couldnt come for the test drive :) Very dodgy looking fellow so I decided not to buy his car as someone might think it still belonged to him and blow it up or something :)

    I take my car there....

as do lots of people from this forum. I had my engine rebuilt there. Joe is great and knows his stuff. Never try ringing the workshop number as spencer is usually not there and if Joe is under a car or something he wont be able to answer. Spencer can be reached on 0419323574 and Joe can be reached on 0408337283. Tell em I sent you..:)Cheers

How much did your rebuild cost? (n/m)

it was only a semi rebuild....

motor was pulled, new gaskets, hoses etc etc. 2 new heads put on and some other maintainance stuff done while the engine was out (Det sensor, oil pump etc etc. The bottom end was inspected and deemed to still be in excellent condition and because I'm lacking in funds, it wasnt touched. All up it cost me $3800.Cheers

    looking on the bright side

if your car was maintained by nisport (which is reputable) then the damage is less likely to be major, my guess is that its probably small electrical like ptu etc..

    Its all a test ! :-Z

You see if you completely loose it after all that and become a real bastard, then Murphy will bite you on the arse everytime you go out.Look at it this way, you have your dream, dont ever give up on it. Yeh! shit happened, look how much you've learnt.Sounds like your baby needs some TLC, once you fix her, then she'll treat you kindly in return. Its like a learning curve, and a puzzle. You need to work out what she's been thru. Im sure you'll be back to loving her real soon.
    All the best with it.:-Z
