Dont ask most of my times were on par with my 180sx. NOT HAPPY JAN First (and fastest) time was 14.020 So naturally assumed id be in for a good night and dip into the 13's However my car had other ideas and i got consistant mid to high 14's and 1 18 (i missed 3rd OK!) Still good fun, but the fact thaty she refused to spin the wheels even launching as high as 5000rpm, and my cabin smelt 100% of clutch even though I dot hold the clutch in, tells me.... i need a new clutch im in a bad mood lol. Friggin "high flow T28's". Whoopy doo lol. CA18DET engine swap? haha Anyway... ill feel better tomorrow. And even better next year when i should have some coin to spend on the car and make it what I want it to be. Nice to meet ZDUCTIV and chat and stuff. Good times. Will post some footage and pics later.
Don't be too disheartened. Many people who go to the drags for the first time in their Z, especially with a manual don't do so well until they get some practise. Stock turbos @ 14PSI and a good driver will see a low 13 pass fairly confidently.
my only consolation is that i was running stock boost. However thats little consolation when i know my engine has shit compression results and boost will make it die faster. Once again back to thinking if id spent the money ive spent on the 180.... shit it would FLY by now. That was running 14.980 on stock boost. So.... 6K later im no better off and have a car that is cosmetically and mechanically in worse condition. but anyway, that was my disision and my mistake.... looking forward, its time to make lemonade
I didn't end up getting out of work until late anyhow But, where do you buy helmets? I know eBay, but I'd worried they aren't up to spec. Is there a good place to buy 2nd hand ones that are CAMS approved or whatever it was they had to be?
I had an awesome night. Was great to meet ya too Chris and thanks for the hand with the screwdrivers. Would have been stuck in the 14s if it wasn't for you. Had a best run of 13.967, and a best reaction time of 0.009 which almost won me some money but alas I was 4th overall reaction time. Few rando pics: Few videos: 14.19 14.03 14.01 RT=0.009 Listen closely. Commentator: "Steven McFall has run a 0.009. That puts him into 4th. Damn ... illegible. Can anyone tell me the rest? Finally: 13.967 0.009 timeslip
Thats awsome Good on ya guys. Ill come down next time now my wednesday sport has finished. Was it busy down there? Would have been a nice day. Good stuff.
Argh can't edit: First time at drags: RTs: Run 1: 0.293 Run 2: 0.187 Run 3: 0.257 Run 4: 0.152 Run 5: 0.162 Run 6: 0.275 Run 7: 0.127 Run 8: 0.009 Run 9: 0.120 Run 10: 0.044 ETs: Run 1: 14.260 Run 2: 14.023 Run 3: 14.440 <-Boost leak. Fixed. Cheers Chris Run 4: 14.112 Run 5: 14.191 Run 6: 14.335 <- Had ignition cut in third gear. Cruised through traps @ 131kph instead of 163 ish that I was running normally. Run 7: 14.017 Run 8: 14.163 Run 9: 14.036 Run 10: 13.967 Not really. Got 10 runs in with a break for about 40 mins included. I was about the 7th car to lineup.
Nice to meet you too mate. Glad the screw drivers helped Congrats on the 13 too thats awsome. I know we both wanted one lol. I could have stayed but it was obviouse I was just getting more angry and my clutch was just getting worse, so time to head home and tuck the kids in bed. aaaahhhhhh Glad you pulled a 13 on 12psi. Hopedully when i boost the T28's ill be happy May just concentrate on zaust, clutch, dif, and tyres for next years drags depending on how coin goes. on and gear box. mines been rebuilt but 4th cruches EVERY time when going hard. However.. who needs 4th lol.
Check to make sure clutch is adjusted and bled properly, then if no improvement, I'd definitely be looking at a new clutch sooner rather than later. You should be able to delve into the 13s pretty easily once you get that sorted. I don't know whether to be happier about the 0.009 or the 13.967. Hehe.
you can get helmets for under $100 at motorbike shops, got mine from one of the places on main street osborne park near scarb beach road. I didn't go cos last time I went to the track it was 30 degrees and it stayed that way til 9pm, thought it'd be the same tonight.
Ah pity. Would have been good to see more Zedders down there. Even though the ambient was only @ 27.2C for my first run, felt a lot hotter with track temp @ 44.3C especially having to wear long pants / shirt. Track temp was still 35C @ 9 oclock.
yeah now ive calmed down a bit im thinking "sort ya clutch out and check for boost leaks and try again next year." thats not too pricy. Will still have to wait till after my UK hol though. So 2008 = year of the granny driving for me from now on lol
for me, the most gutting part was bloody missing 3rd when we were up against each other lol Would have been awsome to have a good Zed vs Zed run At least i have a good excuse for loosing
Do the clutch job yourself and it's not a very expensive exercise at all. Fixed. Agreed. Would have been close if your clutch was in similar order to how it was in the first run.
hey mate i was there and your car looked really good. glad to see you go up against that evo. How come you guys werent warming up the tyres?
My Video of the evening Sorry couldn't help but throw together a quick edit. Bit crap and f'ed up the ending but anyway... gives a nice overview of the nights events enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX8tNQ1u70Q
Didn't really wanna shred the tires too much. I'm short on cash so throwing most of the tread away for a drag night on street tires didn't make much sense to me and thus my 60's were a bit so-so I started doing it a bit towards the end though, and started bring the 60's down. :zlove:
for me 3 reasons 1) they are my daily street tyres 2) warming up street radials when they havent cooled down is pointless really 3) read all comments about my clutch (i can still smell it right now on my clothes) 4) ........ive actualy never done a proper burnout lol.... i dont think i know how hahahahahahaha
