Finally the time has come. Steve (aka ZDUCTIV) came around on Saturday morning to help get started. We jumped into my 4WD and headed north into unknown land to get Andrew's engine crane (aka minivan). Thankfully it just fitted in the back. I believe this crane gets around a fair bit. Back home we started removing things as per this guide. We probably only spent about 2 hours actually working on the Zed. Most of the day was spent looking for the right tools. Draining the fuilds The crane, what a slut! The following day (today) was when the real work started. Steve came over again, followed by Simmo (aka WazTTed) which involved about 3 or 4 phone calls as he got lost the idiot. Later on Adam (aka Tordek) showed up to lend a hand. Steve got started on the exhaust while Simmo and I ripped shit out everywhere (mainly Simmo, I spent most of the time looking on in horror). Adam worked his magic on the bastard bolt on the back of the AC compressor. Steve removing the starter Simmo working his magic The exhaust removed Adam swearing at the AC bolt Simmo doing a dance A quick run to super cheap was required to get some allen keys to remove the drive shaft as mine were too small. Unfortunately these proved to be a bitch to get off and we couldn't get the last bolt out. We decided to unbolt it from the centre bearing. I'll probably put in a one piece shaft later anyway. With that gone we were down to the tranny, Steve almost lost an arm as we pulled it out. Perhaps next time we should get a tranny jack... nah. Tranny out All wiring removed and oil cooler lines off, we were ready for the crane. The hoisting of the engine was actually quite simple. who said there wasn't room in the engine bay? Engine coming out Engine out! It was now time for the mandatory sit in engine bay shot Looking at the engine bay now brings a tear to my eye because I know I have a huge job ahead of me. HUGE thankyou to Steve, Simmo and Adam for the help. I couldn't have done it without you. Big ups to Andrew for loaning me his engine crane, thanks mate. Thats all for now folks! Cheers, Dave :zlove:
was a great day, thanks for the brews and snaggs mate. always good fun 2 pull a engine out.. 2 bad about the good old oil flooded turbos hey.. the old girl wants the big momma turbos.. cant wait 2 actually reinstall a engine back into a zed for a change!!!! gr8 pics.. next time we are gonna get adams head nice and greasy
Nice work... Great job there fella's... It's good to see a Perth tech day with actual work being done for once...lol...usually it consists of mostly drinking and chatting...every now and then someone will walk around with a spanner to look busy... What are your plans now Dave? Engine rebuild? Larger Turbo's? Respray engine bay? Probably all of the above yeah? Can't wait to see what happens with her... Cheers Rob.
awesome pics!!! can't wait to see a thread labelled: WA: Engine install day, in the coming events section.
nice one i have just done it myself. its a bit of a bitter sweet victory when you get it out, because you are happy but then you realise how muc hwork you have ahead of you
well look at who's hands are dirty and who's are clean,, just wondering who did all the work .. ( last pic)
Two questions; Why did you remove the engine, what task do you have ahead of you? Why was the crane a slut? I have one like it and removed four engines with it and it's great.
The engine was pulled for a full respray I think. The crane is a slut coz I believe its minivans and has been passed around the WA crew for many engine pulls... ie. it gets around = slut.
Lol. When you asked me on msn I thought you were wanting to know cause you were curious, not because you wanted to let the cat out of the bag... Haha. Lol dave. Sprung!
Removed engine for complete respray. plus my turbos are on the way out, full of oil! might be rebuilding engine, haven't decided yet. Crane is a slut because it gets around WA
