    BigCol That's what she said...

Ok, here we are ready to amp up another awesome GOR cruise, this time with the assistance of BADZX and his local knowledge of some awesome back roads! This time around we are going to ask for some feedback for trying to make this appeal to the most people possible!

1/ Date! (default is option e)

Here is a calendar of events up until Easter:

    Feb
    a) Sat 9 & 10 Too soon
    b) Sat 16 & 17 Too soon
    c) Sat 23 & 24 Clipsal

    Mar
    d) Sat 1 & 2 Free
    e) Sat 8 - 10 Labour Day Weekend
    f) Sat 15 & 15 F1 GP
    g) Sat 22 & 23 Easter
    h) some date a few weeks after Easter when things are quieter

As you can see there is a bit going on! After speaking to people at the recent Vic bbq, at this stage the tentative date for the cruise is Sunday the 9th of March. I know that this is the Sunday of the Labour day long weekend and that traffic on the GOR road will be heavy, but hopefully being the middle day of the weekend it will be lesser, particularly if we can get away from Melbourne early (sharp 9am departure). It also gives us Monday to recover. But if people are happy to wait a little longer and push it back a few weeks after Easter then that's fine by us too (pro: roads will be quieter, con: weather is dodgier). So let us know your thoughts.

2/ Distance (default is option c)

Ok, so the 2nd item we want feedback about is the length of the cruise. There are a number of options available to us:

    a) I'd be happy to go to Apollo Bay for lunch then cruise back to Melb via the GOR
    b) I'd be happy to go to Apollo Bay for lunch then go a little bit further (either to Laver's Hill like last year or a bit further to Port Campbell & the 12 Apostles)
    c) I'd be happy to go to Apollo Bay for lunch then go inland a bit through some really good twisties with much less traffic than the GOR and either return to Melb the back way, or re-join the GOR.
    d) Some other route

3/ Lunch at Apollo Bay (default is option c)

    a) Pub meal
    b) A catered basic bbq (ie hamburgers & sausages for $1 or $2 each)
    c) I'm happy to wander the shops at Apollo Bay and get my own food & eat it on the grassy lawn near the beach with my fellow zedders.
    d) I'll bring my own food / picnic
    e) I'll be doing the 40 hour famine and will not be eating!

To make it easy please feel free to provide feedback in the form of preferences (ie 1b, 2a, 3c etc) plus any additional feedback you wish to provide!

    my preferences

Date: (e) or anytime after easter is fine with me.

    Distance: (b) or (c)

    Lunch: (a) (b) or (c)

I'm really keen for a nice early start though so we can get more driving time. If people are getting pissed the night before and cant make it on time, bad luck for them. Here's an idea: Dont get pissed the night before..:)

    Cheers

    1.

    Mar
    d) Sat 1 & 2 Free
    e) Sat 8 - 10 Labour Day Weekend

both sound good but labour day will be tooo heavy and we all remember being caught behind that truck and crawling along...pref. i would choose 1&2

    2.

    b) I'd be happy to go to Apollo Bay for lunch then go a little bit further (either to Laver's Hill like last year or a bit further to Port Campbell & the 12 Apostles)
    c) I'd be happy to go to Apollo Bay for lunch then go inland a bit through some really good twisties with much less traffic than the GOR and either return to Melb the back way, or re-join the GOR.

i have gone to the 12 apostles and i got to say the road between lavers hill and there was absoultly AWESOME...continuous twisties and i was actually going to ask you if we could extend it to there:p...awesome roads after lavers hill:D

    3.

    a) Pub meal

i found that doing a BBQ at apollo bay was hectic due to the reason that the amount of flies there is stupidly absurd and you could go insane trying to cook there...and found out that you could get it a little cheaper if we all order together and have a possibility to get discounts (group buy:p)

    ________________________________________________________________________________
just my thoughts...this year i will be cruising with sandeep so we are planning to use his car as a camera car and get a few views from the rear, front ect...so if anyone has any video cameras that they are willing to let us borrow and if they have any mounting points aswell that will be helpful

(sorry thought it was an good place to ask too:D we need some more video footage:zlove: )

also from seeing last years cruise and with our numbers our expected pit stops took longer aswell as what jedi said, alot of people rocked up late, so we can either put the meet time earlier or make sure we leave on time coz i saw what your timing was meant to be and it just took too long for people to come to the meet point which eventually caused a little delay...but cant wait for this cruise too been waiting 1 YEAR:D:p

Couldnt have put it better myself Col :D
Looks as if all the PMs have paid off :D

At this stage I'll be traveling to the half way point between Geelong & Melbourne ( one of the big servos ) and tag on to the main group from there for the run down.

Really looking forward to putting faces to 'usernames' atlast.

a cut and polish to finish the new and improved PURPLE BADZX
    :zlove:

    I vote for ......

    e) Sat 8 - 10 Labour Day Weekend

    b) I'd be happy to go to Apollo Bay for lunch then go a little bit further (either to Laver's Hill like last year or a bit further to Port Campbell & the 12 Apostles)& then take the inland roads back to Geelong then home

Lunch.... what ever everyone decides is good enough.

  5. RedZedMikey

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

Date: Option 'e' or 'h' ... or 'h-subsection 1' - November, which is about when RZ2 will be ready!

Distance: Option 'b' ... but unless I take the Magna, I'm likely to be someone's PSA and therefore out of my control.

Food: Option 'a' or 'c' ... saves anybody having to concentrate on catering, and absolves me from reserving a bbq that doesn't work.

You recon they are good......... wait till you see some of the inland roads.... freshly hotmixed & minimal tourist use

I'm trying to get a local club to 'cater' the event for us... no cooking, no cleanup afterwards, & cheap !
I'll know more after Wednesday night.....

i've been the inland roads too....i think its when you go left at lavers hill and follow the road to apollo bay...but yeah have been the backroads to geelong....but yeah if we can get catering at the pub or wateva it will be great:D...also those new roads are awesome i went when the were like brand new wit the temp. markings in the road to show which lane you should be in:p...awesome stuff there...but seriously i reakon the labour day weekend will be too hectic seeing that everyone will make a day of it and roads will get clogged...last year was good coz there was minimal traffic but and not tooo many slow pokes:p...but yeah up to you guys:D

Im up for any of it but make the date a bit later I went on a GOR cruise on the weekend and there were a lot of f*#king people that cruise on 20kms and dont understand how to use the turnouts, or just stop in the middle of the road with 20+ cars behind them to take a photo.

I am happy with all the defaults, though as a few people have mentioned the Labour day weekend could be a bit tedious with traffic. As soon as possible after Easter might be worth considering but I am happy either way.

  15. red32

    red32 You talkin' to me?

Date: 1e, but of course the down side is traffic. This is about the only weekend I'm free of either work or TV commitments before Easter. After Easter will depend on as yet unknown work schedule.

Distance: 2c. Some of the back roads in that area are fantastic.

Lunch at Apollo Bay:. No overall preference, but if Kingy's planned catered meal works out, that would be my preference.

Whatever, be there or be disappointed!

I'll be making the journey from the opposite direction Col so will meet up with the cruise at Apollo Bay for lunch and then cruise back through the Otways to the twelve apostles and make my way back to Stawell.

The only dates I can't make it are: March 2 when I'm volunteering at a charity golf day and April 5/6 when I'll be riding the Murray to Moyne with the Stawell 'Sprockets'!

    Can't wait mate!

    I'd be happy with:

    Date:
1d or 1h, reasons being better traffic and work rosters...

Distance: Well if i have the day off I dont mind how far we go, I'll be fully committed to going whatever we do.

    Food.
3a or 3c, prefer to catch up with the everyone and not be strung out all over the shopping strip (might lose people)...

I'm hanging out for this cruise, I have a new non-zed toy ready for this even if I can make it, been craving to use it, so hopefully all turns out well :D

p.s. Thanks guys for organising this again. Definitely the best cruise of the year!!!

1: e or h... would prefer a saturday though as i work sundays but should be able to arrange to swap shifts... don't wanna miss this again.

2: c... but happy to do whatever everyone else wants. any idea on the km's we'll be doing? i might need to fill up petrol at halfway, my car is still only doing 350km to the tank, hoping to get that sorted out before the cruise.

3: c, seems easier than organising a group meal... also means we can wander around and check out all the cars.

thank you big col & badzx, i can't wait for this cruise

1 H - pretty much to avoid the traffic. having been stuck in massive queues several times held up by a few selfish motorists last year is something i want to avoid this time.

2 B or C - leaning towards B as it was pretty tiring on the way home having driven a full day. twisties are great but not when i'm too tired to enjoy them.

3 C - prefer to just chill and eat outside
