I almost forgot....... I ran out of vinyl today. If it werent for scrapping the first attempt at the bonnet, I would of had enough. so, the material required for the bumpers and spoiler has been ordered, don't know how long it will take to arrive.
small update again just a few, re assembled photos. The mirrors will need re doing, they are a bit of an difficult shape to wrap.
tiny little update to let you know where things stand Right, so the extra vinyl needed has been ordered, not expected until the 20th of January, however, knowing my area and the postal service, good luck. Tomorrow I'll be doing the window tint, maybe wrapping the spoiler with the remains. However, my question to you guys is would you like a run-down of costs, time frames and difficulty? I'd also like to point out that this was my first time wrapping a full car. I've done small interior pieces and small pieces on the roof before, but nothing of this scale. It's not a difficult process, it just requires a lot of patience and some friends wanting to help.
how much have you spent on the wrap itself. looks like a great job. how does it feel compared to normal paint?
Righto So, the best I can do is give you my prices as I paid them. Some of these were on special, others were off Ebay, so prices could very well change: Body work: applicators : $0.95 each, x2 sanding block and sandpaper (I used anywhere between 320 and 2000) = $14.95 Body filler: this will change depending on specific cars, as I only need about 400g out of the 500g tin. Tin was $12.79 Vinyl: first Piece of vinyl: 5ft x 40ft = $569.04 second piece : 5ft x 12ft (more than enough) = $223.03 Primer pens: 5x 0.66ml = $19.16 Tint: 35% tint= $29.95 Wheel and caliper paint: peelcoat : two cans, $10 a can Caliper paint: one kit, $19.95 a kit Preparation: standard car wash (you should have some of this already :zlove: ) IPA, I only needed about 300ml, as you use it diluted. Finish: meguiars plastix polish: normally for cleaning headlights, but is designed for clear plastic (hmmmmm, can you see where this is going? ) In regards to the finish. The vinyl, when first applied is very...........tacky. as in it grabs at your hand when you run your hand over it. However, after a day in the sun and a wipe down with a wet cloth, it becomes smooth. I have found after a combination of sun, wiping down and a single coat of polish, It is pretty much comparable to paint, and I work as a vehicle detailer, so I know about paint. Difficulty: bodywork is not fun, obviously this is going to change depending on specific cars. I had a few nasty bits. 7/10 Time consumption: took me 4-5 days with some assistance from dad. obviously, will change per car Vinyl: In general, this is actually fairly easy. I will point out difficult areas. doors are one of the easiest panels of the larger panels to do, however, a friend is a must. 3/10 Rear hatch. make sure you cut the piece of vinyl correctly to fit and it would be a straight forward piece to do, the window off cut was used to do a door sill and an a-pillar and the nose piece. two friends recommended. 5/10 front fenders. surprisingly easy. again, one friend is recommended. I found, cutting the excess material away from the wheel area makes this a lot easier 3/10 Bonnet. This is really easy with some experience and two friends. but don't try this until you have some experience. two people = 7/10 three people = 3/10 rear guards. I actually cheated. the guards are done with three pieces. one per guard and one piece on the tail. My seams are pretty much invisible though, so it doesn't matter. again, cutting away the excess material in the wheel arch makes this easy. 4/10 roof panels. t-tops, the tiny section behind it, the a-pillars, all extremely easy, one person jobs. start here if you have no experience at all. 1-2/10 Mirrors: Run away. these are not easy. have a look on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fl1WUNofPs this is the only way to do it. patience, time, patience, time and then tear it off and start again. don't try until last. 7/10 Finish: this is basically washing the car and putting a coat or two of polish on. not that hard. any other questions, feel free to ask
3m 1080 series vinyl , and after using it for the larger panels, I wouldn't use the cheap eBay stuff again, so much easier
So, has no one noticed? I thought my mirrors would of raised more mentions. That or they look too factory, which was the aim
Fair enough, there is only one photo. I'll have to take some more. To me its obvious on the one photo but more pictures are good right?
Mirrors what do you think? this was to try to optimise the life span of the mirrors. the vinyl can only take so much stretch, so I thought it would be better to paint then in a matt black paint. I think overall it looks like a factory done job, and Im happy with how it looks, as well as the overall look it creates. let us know what you think
yeah thats pretty good, similar to the factory colour scheme.......just got to wait for the rest of your vinyl now aye?
Surprise guess what arrived today? the spoiler and front bumper have both been wrapped, and re installed. pic's to follow tomorrow when I have light.
Yes . It has been sanded down so it isn't as prominent. It still has a miniscule amount of texture, just to help protect that area, but its barely noticeable
