Thought I'd put up some pics of engine bays that've served as a guide and/or motivation for my wire tuck tell me what you think! Obviously we've all seen this one a lot so I won't put up any more pics of it My favourite, Mike D's car. Not sure why I like it so much - messy in places, but just looks badass This one pulls it off I think due to no fan shroud Dub's car in another life What do we think of the A/M timing belt cover? -A
That last one is drop dead gorgeous....gahhh get me a kleenex. It good to see you have a good choice of inspiration. I eagerly await pics of your completed bay tuck, need aomething new to fap to
Here're some pics I just snapped: Updated since last weekend when the engine went out and HICAS fully removed obviously not finished but coming along well!
Anti Ever since you were talking about removing the fan shroud - I cant stand the look of them anymore haha. It seems like such a clunky design compared to other parts of the car and makes my eyes bleed just my two cents
can you believe he's pulled it to bits to make it better! that said not a fan of the timing belt cover...
Looking good Anti..... I to am one of those not so enthusiastic about the visual aspect of the fan shroud.
Thats what i was thinking. Its definitely starting to look neat. The plenum is critical on a zed though since its so in your face
Chhyeah, tell me about it. I agree completely. With the gross looking old manifold you don't even notice that the top wires have been tucked... I hate the accidental blue and red theme the most. That's my spare manifold. I've got a smoothed plenum in my garage, which's there at the moment for further shaving since the tuck. Right next to it is a full set of cam covers, OEM boost pipework and smoothed water pipes. They'll all be going in for coating at the same time as my cam gears, hard pipes, balance tube and coil pack brackets. Planning on a professional cutback and polish of the bay as well which will help a lot. In the mean time I'm replacing the hard pipe couplers with black and painting the pipes themselves black. Then perhaps getting a photo which isn't shit house
I think it really helps to bring everything together, gives the overall engine a much cleaner and balanced look. Have to wait and see what Anti does to his plenum though.. might look sweeeet
Yeah! I found that really interesting too. I wouldn't have thought it was so popular. i sold my cover and grinded off the mounting points for it on the plenum. no thanks! i've got a "no covers" mindset to the tuck - it's half arsed to just put a cover on something on the bay when doing a tuck. It's cheating! hiding the wiring for the injectors/coil packs would be a piece of piss with a throttle cover! this extends to the timing covers, full width rad air guides, etc... I love the way the plenum draws in on itself, like a rib cage or the knuckles of two hands drawn in together. great curves, no need to hide it. I'll be coating a completely smoothed plenum, but the colour scheme only a few are clued in on... i find it really interesting what you think the throttle cover does for the bay. what would you like to see me do?
I love the work in those engine bays - I mean all I've done is a loom tuck and Hicas delete and probably not to that extent. As for your plans anti keep at it it's coming along well. I sure at some stage I'll contact you for pointers ATM though I'm just trying to get mine to work again lol
Personally i think the cover actually completes the car. Its like a big finale to finishing an engine. Yeh chrome is a real eye catcher, but the way the plenum arms are shaped it draws the eyes to the centre of the block, and i think without that cover you are actually left wanting something and feeling that something is missing, like youre missing the last chapter to a book. Its like a keystone in a bridge, without it an engine bay looks unstable, like it will collapse inwards. But thats just my opinion...
