Hello, looking into the Tomei poncam VALC camshaft for the 300zx, wondering if anyone could shed some light on the VALC the new design, would this new style aid in quicker response from the turbos based on VALC opening the valves sooner. I’m not up with camshaft knowledge and only looking into camshaft to replace current worn stock ones (I have gone through the Harding on a cam lobe). I do have GT2860rs turbo that are a bit laggy and I don’t want to make it worse. Would these be suitable for a faster spooling turbo? If anyone has any experience on them and can let me know would be great.
Hi, where are you getting information about VALC cams for VG30DE(TT)? I can't find anything on the Tomei website. Broadly speaking the JUN 9.5/.264 cams have been shown to be a good match for your turbos. Looking at the Tomei poncam range the 10.25mm/.272 will be very laggy and the 8.5mm/.258 are really only a slight bump over stock (but probably a good "stock" type replacement for manual cams). If you can post a link to the specific cams you are referring to I'd be interested in reading more about them.
Here are a few of links I've found. https://www.tomeiusa.com/2022/10/27...mshaft-power-and-torque-efficiency-quietness/ https://products.tomeiusa.com/camshaft/368-camshaft-set-poncam-vg30dett-258-850 I was only interested in the 258\8.5mm as it appears to be the easiest solution to get the vehicle on the road again.
No mention of VALC cams with regard to VG30DE(TT) at either of those links? Yes if you just want to get the car back on the road the 258/8.5mm is probably best bet, or stock manual cam shafts if you can find a set.
Not sure what you mean Rob, on the first link under the banner of the first page it lists the VG30. On the second link when you scroll down you can click on camshaft description and goes into details of the VALC. I've been on the hunt for stock manual cams, unfortunately everyone wants crazy money for them, which makes Tomei value for money. I'll probs jump on them then.
