Keep yourselves and family (and of course your Z) safe in the path of the cyclone. My thoughts are with you. Cliff
Cat 5, 290kph wind, 100km diameter That's worse than the New Orleans Hurricane. Good luck, you guys. Thinking of you! And, now there's a second cyclone forming off the coast (about 2000km away, so no threat yet...), sat pic , but look at the size of the bastard!
It already appears that crop losses and property damage will be huge Can only hope that injuries are kept to a minimum. The local Innisfail weatherman can now claim better 1/4 mile times than a F1, after going outside this morning and trying to get a wind speed reading. To all the emergency service personnel that are about to be in the thick of it - keepup the good work.
Well the Zeds in Townsville were safe...... My parents live at Innisfail, they called me at 6:30 this morning to say the house has lost it's roof and most of the windows have been blown out. They are also sugar cane farmers and most of the crop has been flatened, just as the sugar price was rising. Other friends from Innisfail have called in tonight with extensive damage to their houses but my folks have still been the hardest hit. Another Cyclone is on it's way and expected to hit in 72 hours, Townsville may even cop it.
the most ferocious on record .. thank the lord that you are all ok ..!! ...with innisfail copping the brunt ... absolute destruction .. best wishes for the clean up ..
Worst part I heard was ...... THE PUB GOT TAKEN OUT They can't even throw the normal Cyclone parties. Something I will always remember is seeing pictures after the Melbourne Floods years ago, Everyone hit the pubs til the Water dropped before they got back to work or started fixing things. Thats what i've always pictured as the Aussie Style. When hell breaks loose around us, we'll get together down the pub, make some new friends, tell stories of an era long ago. Then when the time is right the cleanup begins and everyone knows everyone and they don't mind giving a helping hand to get it done quicker. Hope things don't get much worse up there with the 2nd cyclone coming through. Like always in Aussie style i'm sure they'll pull through and get on top of the problems ASAP. Fate...
Reef Casino in Cairns didn't miss a beat My folks live in Cairns, and I was told that at no time did the Casino close during the effects of the cyclone in Cairns (Apparently it was similar to a cat 2 cyclone up there) Don't ask how my parents know??
Best of luck to all the north QLD'ers.. Hope all is as well as can be... Best wishes to all. Terry & Anna
All I can say is get ready for Wati! Looks like it will hit around Townsville unless something major happens in the meantime to change its course
