haha i was expecting to see an Arashi Car squeezed in that list somewhere. I gotta be honest, Some of them builds on there are pretty damn nice.
You either love the Z32 from first sight, or you don't. And that's what seperates true members of this forum from others.
Z's look good though Hey Chris some pretty calculated remarks there GTR/ 996/ 300ZX are the cream of the crop I reckon - yeh sure you have to spend big on mods for the 300ZX to make it equal the others but its sure worth it when you do. GTR's are awesome but at 100k - thats a lot of Z! I like them all - but the 300 is sure one sexy car when its done right, I guess that's why it been rated as one of the best looking cars all round, and my opinion is that it looks better than a GTR still! A Cobra replica 427 is the only thing that will change me from the Z and derail my plans! I can see where your coming from there! The main thing is that if you do it, you dont sell it - or as you said yourself you will lose out bigtime. If you go do a 300ZX now that its 20 yrs old and you want to spend $ into it, then it's for life! I guess thats my plan in the long term myself as well. I'm upgrading the 300ZX to modern specs instead. The electrics and running gear is easy, its the body parts that are more of a challenge as I am still yet to find aluminium front quarter panels as my main aim is to lighten the front now as part of the plan. Take a look a powertrip, now thats a car for life and where I would like to be, in fact he has nearly already converted me to the V8 version! Theres an old mechanics saying "theres no substitute for cubes" Cheers
Gone through phases of considering selling, but then I drive it and feel like a baws. Realisticly I will upgrade sometime, but sunk too much into the zed to sell it for 5k. It can sit in the shed for forever and ever before I sell it. The bitch. You make enough to have many toys chris its only money
Interesting point of view. I didn't love the Z32 from first sight, in fact I only started shopping for it because I couldn't afford a GTR. True Story. I do however love a project and the condition of my Zed today has more to do with that than a lifelong infatuation with the z32 chassis. Do I have to revoke my membership? Or am I permitted to stay on as a second class citizen?
Agreed but so as not to hurt Rob260s feellings I would rephrase that as "You either love the Z32 from first sight, or you don't. And that's what seperates people who would ditch their Z32 for another car from those who wouldn't".
Well said but I would disagree with the last sentence a bit (or reword it) as it implies the Z ins't a fast car and I don't think that is correct (though I think I know what you meant to say). Go to this site http://www.060calculator.com/ and use the paramters 350 crank kw (which is not that hard to achieve in a Z32), 1530kg curb weight, RWD and dual clutch....you get 0-100 time of 3.535 sec. With the right clutch, suspension and tyres you can achieve that to I reckon. Now that time won't quite beat the latest GTR times (claimed by nissan) or the very latest half a millon dollar (or more) supercars e.g. MacLaren MP412C, whatever the latest Lambo is or probably the latest Ferrari. But then your're not paying half a million either. That time will put you in front of 99.9% of the other traffic out there incluing stock Ferraris, Lambos etc that aren't the very latest. And if that time is too slow then boost your Z to 400rwkw (done by at least one member on this forum) and you will be beating stock Ferraris, MacLaren etc and for a lot less than half a million.
They are some beautiful and fine cars you mention. I think it is a matter of personal preference and taste as to what you do assuming you have the 75K to spend. I don't think there is any wrong choice there (apart perhaps from spending 75k if you can't afford it). I love the look of the 360 Modena (I'm sure I would love to own one if I had the money) even if the afore mentioned generic mildly modifed 3.5 sec Z is nearly a second faster - in a straight line - than the stock 360 Modena -and for far less than the 99K cost of the second hand Modena. I don't think you should put 75K on any car that YOU aren't passionate about spending 75K on be it a Z or otherwise. And if you have to ask people pehaps you aren't that passionate? If its legal and you're not hurting anyone else (not selling the kids into slavery to get the 75K), do what your heart wants (we can only tell you what we want not what you want).
I'm talking about a theoretical zed here (I have a PhD in theoretical Physics, so I am a theoretical kind of guy). Theoretical is good enough for me. Plus its damn fast in the real world too. (For the theory type the numbers I mention in above post into the link I give and see what time you get). I find the link I give is pretty acurate for most car manufacturer claimed times vs stated weight and claimed hp.
I still doubt a sub 350rwkw zed will get close to those times, happy to be proven wrong though. Remember, it might be taking into account that the car in question has launch control, traction control and all those other driving aids.
I once would have agreed with you but since getting my RPS twin plate carbon-carbon clutch (cost me 3K) which nearly breaks your back on a hard launch (and that's without dropping the clutch - dropping the clutch is no longer possible as would probably break the drive train) and since upgrading to Goodyear F1 Asymetric 2 tyres so that wheel spin and fish tailing are now a thing of the past, I reckon sub 4s is possible. I'll need to time it one day. In any case though the theoretical 0 - 100 time I give from that site is more an indication of the acceleration possible from the car, albeit due to Z32 traction issues may not actually see it in the 0-100 time. Perhaps I should have compered some of the faster quarter mile times for some of the faster Zs out there vs stock Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren etc and then comaprsion of costs to achieve (buy car plus modify).
Not half as much as me. Anyway for comparison purposes (and because I don't have a life) I've searched the net for times for current model super cars here are the results. These are from Motor Trend's Best Drives car Test (the 911 won). http://www.motortrend.com/features/performance/1208_2012_motor_trend_best_drivers_car/viewall.html Not that quarter mile is the be all and end all for best sports car (except to people like me) but here are the 0 - 60 and 1/4 mile times Lamborghini Aventador hp: 691 Quarter mile: 10.8 s @ 132.3mph 0-60mph: 2.9 s Model Year: 2012 Cost: $854000 (http://www.carsales.com.au) Jaguar XKR-S hp: 550 Quarter mile: 12.5 @ 118.3 mph 0-60mph: 4.2s Model Year: 2012 Cost: McLaren MP4-12C hp 592 Quarter mile: 10.8 0-60mph: 2.9 s Model Year: 2012 Cost:$595000 for 2011 model (carsales.com.au) Subaru BRZ hp 200 Quarter mile: 14.9 0-60mph: 6.4 s Model Year: 2012 Cost: $50000 (carsales.com.au) Nissan GT-R hp: 545 Quarter mile: 11.1 0-60mph: 2.8 s Model Year: 2012 Cost: $179990 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG hp: 510 Quarter mile: 12.1 0-60mph: 3.7 s Model Year: 2012 Cost: $183888 with 3,500km (carsales.com.au) Porsche 911 Carrera S hp: 400 Quarter mile: 12.0 0-60mph: 3.7 s Model Year: 2012 Cost: $287900 Now we just need the Z stats. I'll let someone else fill those in but I'm pretty sure I've seen 11 to 12 on road registered Zs. PS: I know the BRZ is not a supercar but so many people bang on about it I thought I'd include it.
Seems I can't edit my orginal post anymore. So just to show that at least in a straight line Zs can be made to hang with the big boys Most if not all of these are road registered Zs (albeit in the US) 11.931s from Stock block and turbos @ 17psi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHWa8pOQRew 10.82s @ 128mph http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyHG1oY31aE 10.6s @ 133mph http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBhnm44NMWM 10.19s @ 139 mph http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjHvvrY0dtU 9.594s @ 141.88 mph stock heads and cams http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYm0frSCZdI 9.944s @ 139 mph http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1A5ohvF8Hdo
looking at the HP on the 2012 stupicars.... They are over 500HP. And the fattest tyres going. Boost a TTZ to that level and together with all the additional torque it would be ridiculous. I believe lots of people boost these but don't do much in terms of traction control I remember reading a 2+0ZTT stock could do a 0-100 in 4.5 secs. Heck even 6.5seconds. Now throw in another 200HP. The fattest wheels that can fit on the rear and traction control and I can't see why a lower figure can not be achieved. Bonneville land speed record comes to mind also.
