Hi Guys,
My mate is a Torana freak and he totally shocked me when he asked if I would swap him for his genuine SLR5000 torana. I thought he was joking. The main reason I am considering this is that the value of the Torana is going up and the value of the Zed is unfortunatly dropping. This car is showrrom condition, with a 323 stroker kit etc. I don't really know what these are worth, but I would imagine it is a more than fair swap. My Zed is pretty much totally stock, 2+2 with leather interior and mags. Don't think of it as loosing a member. I am sure I will stay around even if swapping, and I am sure you will gain another.

eerrr. maybe from a value point...

but i can think of a milion reasons why i wouldnt swap. but i aint going to list them . just leave it at mamoth fuel bills and increased rego. not to mention the drop in style. :( maybe if you were doing it for the whole perpose of on selling.but me being anti holden , i have no idea of the value.id be hard pressed if i were offered a genuine XY GTHO and thats a $100,000 car. id only do it for the profit. :)nothing i have been in compairs to the zed. not even my uncles porsche (though it is a nice car ;)

Check out the asking prices for Toranas first HERE. You would have to be certain of a genuine A9X or L34 in schmick condition to have some chance of a Torrie overtaking a Z32 in resale value.I also reckon a carby fed mean mutha of a V8 Torrie is going drink more fuel than a Z. Its also going to be heading for 30 years old, and will therefore be needing work here and there. All that said, a worked A9X Hatchback would be a luvverly piece of kit.And if Dangerous Dave is reading this, I wonder what his point of view is????

driver then forget it. The things are primitive, easy to work on, but primitive compared to the zed.

After owning 42 cars, the 2nd last was

a custom LX Torana SS hatch which I rebuilt from ground up (logged over 2500 hours in the rebuild). I loved that car but once it was complete, I sold it without an ounce of remorse apart from the BS&T (made big money too!)

My current main (and last?) ride is of course a z32 zed. Without doubt, it's the most complete car I've owned. My two cents ... don't do it - you will regret it like a lost love.

Present values aside, Torana's will come and go. If you want classic aussie muscle, go for an Xu1 which has some pedigree, but also keep the zed if possible.

Anything with a stroker engine will haul ass but is unlikely to hold it's resale for the true affecionado (who is really the only type of person who has the odd $25K cash to spend on a 20+ year old car).

Hmm... bet those thoughts will get some flaming
;)

As others have said

If you are looking at this to use the Torana as an everyday driver I think you will regret it. Not to mention that the z would be a safer car from the crash point of view as well.
If you are thinking of it as an investment do your homework first. Check the numbers because if they don't match it won't be worth near as much as if they do. If it has a stroker engine in it, it has already been devalued from an originality point of view. Keep in mind that there are a lot more "genuine" slr5000's, Xu1, GTHO's etc on the road now that were actually ever built.
best of luck

XU1 - maybe, A9X - yes, L34 - yes, SL/R - no

Still not worth as much as a reasonable Zed, and if it's been modified, then not ever likely to be worth as much. SL/Rs are still quite common, even SL/R 5000s.Anything but a seriously all-over modded Torana might push you into the seat with acceleration, when compared to a mild Zed, but would be found wanting in the cornering department - although not by as much as a few Zed owners seem to think ;) TRhen again, as IB hinted - why not have both - makes for a tough decision on those nice sunny weekends though!

Funny I HATE HOLDENS

Don't you hate those egotistical idiots who think their Holden is the greatest thing to ever come of an assembly line. No I wouldn't even consider it as a weekly driver. Something would probably break on it. Its a genuine L34 but not the original Engine. It is in mint condition. New professional paint job. Re-cromed everything. Body /Chasis no checks out. All I want it for is resale. I am considering selling Zed anyway. I would hate this car to drive also. I have just got rid of my wifes LH which was a danger to others on the road. Handling, what handling? I would drive it to my shed and put a for sale sign on it,(hopefully the road from his house to mine is straight) and it wouldn't be started again till a serious buyer turned up. I love Zeds but my "Ultimate" goal is to put the money into the morgage and redraw on it in a couple of years for my dream car, an ultima. http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/
Blip want one as well. Worth trading down to trade up????????

Ultima GTR

Hey aussie, saw my first one of these while competing in the Hitec shootout at queensland raceway last year. Bloody quick car, it won the event with a 57sec lap time, 1 sec quicker than the fastest GT2 porsche on the day.

Are you sure it's a genuine L34??

And even if it is, without the L34 engine (which was the biggest difference), it's not worth much more than a standard SL/R.
