Hey guys, was wondering if anyone has installed a stubby antenna where the existing antenna is and if so, how did you do it? thanks :)

    That would look horrible.
Have you considered just using the built-in rear glass antenna?

i would of gone with a s2k antenna or something similar... otherwise go with the VE style top mount antenna.. i think it would look got and be real good on reception as well...

Compared to the stock antenna, anything would look better.

Just in case I have misunderstood what this is about, are we comparing a stock retractable chromed antenna with a short (always there) stubb in the position of the stock antenna?

A stub fin antenna mounted near the rear window squirter would look fine, but not necessary if the rear glass antenna is good enough.

Then again there is this valid point..

Sorry guys I was wondering how to install it? Got given a nismo carbon fibre antenna from a mate and wasn't sure how to put it on. If someone knows please pm me and help a fellow zed :) I prefer these stubby ones compared to the stock 10m sail masts haha

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

C'mon guys, he doesnt want a dissertation from the Zed style council on whether it looks good or whether you'd do it yourself or any other funky suggestions....FFS!

Hes got the antennae and want help to fit it so give him a break eh. It was a pretty straightforward question.
What is it with you guys when someone asks for a simple how-to, and just because you dont happen to like the look of it, you give out a bloody great range of alternatives that suit YOU and have nothing to do with the OP's question???......Sheesh!

    To the OP:
Its pretty straightforward when you remove the old antenna and simply reverse the procedure.

Just remove your existing electric antenna. It undoes externally from the top and pulls out from underneath after removing a few screws and stuff and pass the new antenna up thru the body fitting thingo in the rear panel and secure with the nut from on top.
The new antenna may need a simple bracket underneath to stabilize it. Youll work it out.

IIRC, it can be a bit of a challenge to get that nut undone/done up that secures the antenna thru the body fitting and youll have to get creative there. I cant remember what I did at the time. I just remember it being a bit of a PITA with the tools I have. Might need a smaller tube spanner or something. I got around it without doing much damage and it was tight enough.

You may also have to enlarge the hole in that antenna fitting. Its not hard to remove it from the car if you need to so it can be enlarged from underneath without scratching your bodywork.

Other thing is you will prolly need to splice the old and new antenna leads together. Pay attention to this and make the splice as short as possible, solder the inner core and tape up securely and ensure the outer shield braid is soldered back together and tape the lot up. The better the job done here the better the performance of the antenna.

What about disconnecting the rear window antenna and splicing that to the stubbie antenna?:zlove:
