Just wondering when the Z was released what was the various fuel octane ratings available...and that the Z was tuned for? That is: Jap release and octane rating at the time. US release and octane rating at the time. Aus release and octane rating at the time.

What I want to do is flash my nistune modded tt Z with the closest possible intended tune. From a stock tune perspective was the US release designed with a lower octane rating expectation to the Jap release?

And please, before its mentioned to "just go get it tuned" I'm not interested.

But I think 100 RON is widely available in Japan and maybe what some tune house ROM's are based on hence why some of them are known to knock on 98 here.

I would start with JDM OEM ROM as its unlikely to have California emissions type tuning.

My understanding is that the Jap Zeds were tuned for 95, which is why they run so rich. High octane fuel in Japan is 96 RON (see HERE), ie the same as our premium unleaded.

    According to NISSAN.......

The NA's built for Australia specify at least 91 octane (RON).

The TT's built for Europe specify Unleaded Premium with an octane rating of at least 95 (RON).
They also specify 91 octane can be temporarily used in TT's if 95 is unavailable, providing certain precautions are adhered to.

US spec Z32's specify Unleaded Premium with an octane rating of at least 91 AKI (Research Octane Number [RON] 96).
They also specify 87 AKI (RON 91) can be used temporarily only under certain conditions.
There is no mention of different fuel octane ratings concerning NA's or California Emission Controlled vehicles.
