    Hey guys,
I'm thinking about going back to the stock air box on my TT but using K & N filter elements instead of stock paper elements.

I currently have the pod filter, but I'm thinking about returning the car back to stock as much as possible but I don't want to compromise on performance.

Is anyone still using the stock air box while making good power?
By good power I mean 400-500hp TOPS.
    Or 250-350RWKW.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks
    Peter

The only compromise you'll make is your engine will last longer utilising an OEM setup.
How often do you intend running your engine at redline?
If it's all the time then throw away your pod filter & run an open intake.

    K & N have...

a well proven record and they don't void a car warranty if they are used. Long story regarding and a ton of testing and collaboration with dealerships, it's on YouTube.

The issue is, will the stock setup flow enough. I have a feeling it will but I thought to ask on here to see what everyone's thoughts are if still using the stock air intake but with a bit of power.

I suspect that you'd only notice a difference when you use a dual intake. It would be nice to dyno a 300 kw zed with stock and after market intakes and know for sure.

They did a fairly stock zed in the US .....

One of the workshops over there did back to back HP & Torque dyno runs on the same zed before and after the addition of dual intakes (I think it only had a chip and exhaust) with noticeable gains

The graphs are hard to read Ian...

but I can just read the writing.

I'll leave it as is with the pod I think.

That's a comparison between single and twin intakes.

I had a look at the std inlet box set-up and it's so complex. Even to remove the elements is a PITA.

Happy to stick with the pod!

I also remember reading a few tests comparing pod filters to stock - stock always came out on top or the pod filter made no gains over stock.
Not sure on the twin setup though.

I believe this applies to the pods that are located inside the engine bay and totally exposed to heat. Even when the car is moving, hot air is drawn through the radiator.

I saw on YouTube a video of a comparison of stock v's pod filters in a little Daihatsu, it actually lost power with the pods. Bwhahahaha...

Then on a Skyline GTS-T and gained approx. 4kw with aftermarket cold air intake.

I believe the Z is a different cattle of fish though. Our intake is outside the engine bay and get's a nice blast of ambient temperature air.
The stock air box by comparison is just horribly complicated to me.
Even just to take out the elements, you have to be keen. PITA so there goes that idea :)

Thats the only reason i went with a lod. Could always take me 5 minutes to take the panel filters out but then take me 20 minutes to close up the air box. Pod is so much easier.
