im sure you guys have seen the new cars with smart keys..

walk up the doors unlock, or in some older models.. a black button on the door handle, push it and the doors unlock/disarms itself..

jump in the car and turn a knob (rather than key) or push a button like the new toyota's? not needing to get your key out..

anyone every thought of getting that system in the zed?

i got it in my maxima and think its the best thing in the world... no keys..

ive been doing heaps of research and came across this...
    http://www.advancedkeys.com/products.htm

the system i have in the maxima would be very similar to AK-103S kit...

would be getting one in my zed when i get it... what you guys think?

    yay or nay?
    not that expensive either.

Jenny has this in her Dualis. WHAT A POS. Its a pain in the ass.

Move away more than right next to the door and it wont unlock. I still have to wait if she isnt at the car first.

Its crap and no way I would have this on any car of mine.

yes but its convienient... put the card into your wallet and dont need to search around for you keys...

remote start is wank.. as even after starting your car. you still need to unlock it and put the key in...

alot of new cars have the smart key feature stock.

doesnt the dualis system use the black button on the door to unlock it?

i got it on my maxima and its never played up.

I lose my wallet more than I lose my keys though... :/

all the DB's etc have it.. you put the block in the starting slot and push.

I think it also comes down to the quality of the kit.... like the idea is good but like some one says if you are more than 1m away it locks and you have to rub your belly 4 times before it registers again.. that might just be a cheaper version of the kit

i doubt its hard to do.. its just the electronics tha tneed to be installed

Each to their own billy.. Its cool idea but the novelty will wear off I bet after awhile.

    Cool nonetheless.

i dont use it as a novelty though... i use it because i cant be bothered getting the key out and lining it up with the ignition...

yes i know its like saying its not hard to lean over and put it in...

but that like saying steering wheel controls... you dont need them but its nice to have..

each to their own i guess...

Yes it does, BUT if YOU dont have the keys on YOU and they are in the other persons bag for example. You have to wait till they get right to the car before you can open the door.

Also the rubber covers on the doors are bound to crack and fail eventually. They are just like the rubber things that cover the door openers on a commodore remote. They fail AND YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THEM.

These Nissan ones will fail and then you will have to pull the door handle apart to fix them. No thanks. We will not have this car when that eventually happens.

    IMO these are ill concieved.

For this to work properly the car should just UNLOCK when you are near it or to start it. Within say 2 metreS (not right next to the door like the nissan system does). Then relock when the key is away from it. NO stupid rubber buttons.

Here Billy, Give you girl freind the key for her to put it in her bag, you drive and see for yourself what a stupid system it is.

I cant tell you how frustrating it is.

I found similar issues with a Toyota Camry Hybrid, nothing massive, just a few annoyances due to being used to a regular key system.

Jump in stand on the brake, hit the button, DAM!!!! , BEEP BEEP BEEP wont start, read dash YOUR DOING IT WRONG !, it has some sort of "delays" in the brake application and a small one on the button press, enough to be annoying sometimes, especially when your in a hurry, you have already shifted the auto trans and it becomes a cluster **** for starting a car, regular key system I can jump in insert the key start the engine whack it into gear and launch in almost what feels like a single movement.

As a taxi, was always a question, do you leave the fob in your pocket, if you get out with the fob in your pocket and engine running it starts beeping like its about to reverse over the passenger standing at the boot, if you leave it in the car you cant use the handy secret boot release at the back, although some of features can be customised if you go into Toyota.

With Toyota some of the BS can be configured by going to the dealer, so i read in the owners manual, maybe SOME of the BS can be configured out on the Nissan too.

Got one in the mrs lancer.

I like it, transponder in pocket, walk up and open door, get in and turn key.
It works well. never had a problem

in the lancer, the side mirrors fold in when you lock it too..

in the kit i linked... if installed correctly, we could make the windows wind up and fold the mirrors in too..

Had this sorta thing on the M3 i rented in the states... TBH has to be done well, like the GTR's. The "Key" has to have the lock/unlock on em so you have the option to lock unlock, if you dont wanna have to rely on the proxy deal. Foot on the brake and push start to "start" otherwise "key" in the slot and push start to get electronics on.

Was pretty decent and easy to use, didn't lose any function when compared to normal keyless entry. Theres definitely a wank factor there but if you wanna shave tenths off by not having to pull your keys out its a good way to go:cool:

Works fine if YOU have the fob in your pocket. I dont usually as my wife has that much shite hanging off her keys I hate picking them up. So if we go out together and I drive. She will have the bunch of shit in her bag.

I am usually at the car first and the bastard wont unlock till she is standing right beside it. Like 200mm away.

Then you are standing there like a tool pushing the goddamn door button and the prick wont unlock.

Its crap I tell you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad::p

how is this any different to a normal key?

if YOU dont have the key YOU cant get into the car.... umm yeah... thats kinda the idea isnt it?

with regards to the push button start, I believe that would make it easier for the car to be stolen, due to the fact that I just looked at that kit and I didnt see any electronic way to operate the steering lock, meaning that you would also have to remove that as well otherwise you would still have to put the keys in the ignition to release the steering wheel. All of the push button start cars that i have seen with this feature have what i could only imagine to be an electronic solenoid to release the steering wheel but I can only imagine the disaster that would arise if a cheap aftermarket one was fitted or if it was fitted incorrectly, I mean, imagine if that thing locked up at 100km on the highway around a bend, goodbye Z.

The difference is that cause you dont have to pick up the keys. Women can have 100 times MORE SHIT hanging off the key ring cause it sits in their bag. So if you want to use the car. You have to fit 32KG of metal shit and the key FOB in your pocket.

So I dont use the car or refuse to be carrying it ON MY PERSON. So she carries the 32KG of keys and metal shite in her bag when we go out and I can still drive without having it in my hand. Hence the issue.
