    Totally agree there mate.

That would have been a knock back on Simon's door straight away with "please explain".

Belt wise what I could see looked un-damaged but who knows what lurks lower down.

Back to your question on the washer, does that look like the wrong washer? Could that have been the cause?

The biggest question on the back of this guys is, what are the chances that there's no internal damage? Going by what we THINK we know of the events above?

Worst case, what would the car be worth as a "buy me with a blown engine"?

Interior is in good condition. Seats are mint. Rest of car is stock and straight.

    Heating and aircon all operational.

zero leaks from the roof (according to Simon).

Basically stock Tt with blown motor licensed maybe 1200 if your lucky
Body doesn't look that flash interior looks pretty worn sorry to be the bearer of bad news !!

If engine physically "stopped" it means something had physically impacted piston on valve . Pull the covers look at the belt if it's still there try and reinstall and do compression test

    Cheers mate.

Yep that's kind of what i thought. I'm trying to be optimistic.

Can't believe fixing a HG has ended like this, after all the work and money everyone put in for Simon, the car is now worse than when we began :(

    Gutted! Truly gutted!

    All from 1 stud failing.

    something funny going here chris.

in the last photo, you can see the aluminium of the mounting location has physically broken away.

that shouldnt be like that, and will not have provide a good mount for another idler. so new lower plenum needed as well.

yep i spotted that too mate.

Hence why i said "well that's a pain" when I sms'd the photo on Sunday. Wasn't referring to the rest of the stud.

It's actually a surface chip and I suspect was done by the stud snapping away upward.

I'd also question not so much if it could hold another stud (the chip is only about 1 thread deep) but about how the pulley would sit against it. I doubt it would :(

Been busy mate but I will phone you to discuss and get your advice.

TBH I'm just trying to get my head around what is the best advice from here as I dont want to keep giving poor Simon the run-around and creating hope in a fix if there isn't one.

Having looked up the timing belt procedure, that alone if Im not mistaken, can be a 2 day job? (for the un-initiated) and a full day job for someone that knows what they're doing?

    Yes/no?

Add to that plenum pull,/replacement (again) and all that JUST to find out if the motor is FUBAR or not?

If the body is in good condition I could be interested to finally get my project going. Basically all I need is the shell, swap all my running gear over. E.g. you keep the current running gear, exhaust, gearbox, engine, heads since they were machined up nicely and possibly not damaged etc. That way you can recoup some of the loss and sell off those parts separately.

Thanks Ugame for pointing me to this thread.

I seriously felt the roller-coaster ride of emotions involved with this car and it was nice to see some written history with the beast I now own.

Much love.. and I'm sure you guys would be happy that its now in good hands

I think we may be talking crossed purposes after all that mate.

    Check the rego.

    It's not the same car.

My first clue was the Brazilian rear, 350Z wheels, and added gauges on the inside, on the car in your thread.

Not sure we're talking about the same car at all.

I actually still have that bumper :) ..its in the storage shed along with white wolfy.
..If the rims on this car were stock, I think I might have those too as I bought a set off Andy.

In regards to the plates.. Andy had his 'michandy' personal plates on it but then transferred those plates to his SUV and the SUV plates went on the Zed which is what I have now ;)

..also those indicators on the bumper have the turning light attachment.. which I have also :D
