    History:

Thanks to the kindness of the WA community, a bunch of legends came together to help out my mate Simon. We pulled out the motor and gearbox. Stripped off the plenum and the heads, only to THEN discover that the Head Gaskets "seemed" fine.

But what's done is done. Now to plod on regardless and get this car back on the road.

So mainly for those who were there and know what we "pulled" and what we "cut off", please add to and help me correct the following parts order list.

I'll then spring for the parts and on arrival, organise a "can we re-build it? Yes we can!" tech day. This will be to re-assemble the engine ONLY. Putting it back in the car will be another event. This is to ensure we don't rush anything and forget something stupid.

So the parts list we have written down, along with links to what I "think" im buying is as follows: Please comment and correct.

Thanks guys. Items in BOLD im not sure of, plus I fear we missed other "hoses" that were cut during the speed of the day.

Did you do a cylinder head leakage test before pulling the heads? Other thing to consider is the heads may have warped/lifted so get them checked.

Yes get the wiring specialities pre wired connectors from coz. You can get a complete set fuel injector/coilpack/idle control connectors if needed. Cheap, they fit properly, and all very easy to fit etc.

Stock is better provided it hasn't been damaged.

You don't need to buy hose from coz, or even genuine hose. Go to Repco or Auto One or whatever you have over there and get yourself 3m of 5/16" hose. That will be enough to do the upper and lower fuel rails, filter to rail, and reg to return line. Get either Dayco 30R9 or Gates Barricade EFI hose.

There is no step down fuel hose...

These are covered in your "connectors" above. There are a total 10 plugs that use injector "style" connectors in the engine bay.

    6x injector
3x idle control (note one of these is not in fact an injector plug and will not fit properly without cutting down the locating lugs, which is a lame way to go about it...)
    1x water temp sensor

If you want to do all of these plugs just email coz and ask him to send you

6x series 1 or 2 (depending on the year of the car) injector connector
    1x AAC connector
    1x IAC connector
    1x FICD connector
    1x water temp connector

As above the wiring specialties pre wired plugs are a perfectly acceptable and affordable alternative to OEM. Many people just get the late rmodel Bosch style plugs but I don't recommend this as again you have to cut down locating lugs in order to use them. Just get the correct style plug to begin with...

There are two heater hoses, inlet and outlet. Get both, and get OEM from coz.

Sure, off the top of my head you're going to need

Head Gaskets (depending on if you pulled one head or two)
    Exhaust manifold gasket
Head to lower plenum gaskets x2
Lower plenum to upper plenum gasket
EGR gaskets (if it is being retained)
    Balance tube o-rings
    Fuel injector buffers
Fuel injector o-rings (if the injectors were removed from the rail)
IACV gasket if this was removed from the upper plenum
Throttle body gaskets if these were removed from the upper plenum
    Intake manifold seals
    Half moon seals
    Grey RTV

Perhaps more depending on what else you pulled off.

    Get genuine/OEM.

    See above

Mate don't **** around with aftermarket sensors. OEM from coz and get a new sub-harness too.

    See above

    Same as DET sensor mate

Get yourself 3m of Gates Safety stripe 8mm heater hose. This is more than enough. You will also need 4 hose clamps to suit.

Don't fix it if it ain't broke

The head-bolts are not supposed to be reused. Get a new set.

    Thanks for your input Rob.

Re connectors, going by the "if it aint broke, dont fix it" do we need injector connectors given none of his were cracked, and they're easy enough to replace engine in, should the need arrise?

Just looking at where to more sensibly spend the money.

And yes I think we'd be STUPID to put all this back together and NOT have the heads sent off to be professionally looked at and machined first.

Anyone suggest a reputable place in Perth?

If the connectors aren't damaged then no need to replace, but consider giving them a clean up with some contact cleaner before it goes back together. You're very lucky to get it apart without any casualties.

If you have suspected a leak then yeah the head(s) should definitely be skimmed to make sure they are flat. Any cylinder head shop should be able to do this for you.

This has stalled a little as I then got busy with being back at work PLUS suddenly finding a buyer for my house, and buying another.

Now skint myself lol fixing up my house ready for handover.

Regardless, have emailed COZ for a quote based on the recommendations from Rob and will order shortly after.

Fuel and coolant hoses have been purchased locally.

    UPDATE:

Huge thanks to Ross who popped round last night and helped me create the definitive shopping list on the Coz website last night.

    All parts have been ordered.

I have the heads at my place so I'll endevour to have them checked and machined in time for the arrival of the parts.

Then i'll be time to arrange "Tech Day #2" to re-assemble the engine :D

    We'll get there.

(and in other news, Simon does now have work again YAY :) )

    Another update:
    Parts have arrived :D
Removed turbo and manifold from the other head and both heads have been sent of to be re-conditioned.
Snapped 1 exhaust stud in the process :( Head place with remove the stuck half. It snapped off with pretty much the first turn of the spanner ggggrrrrrrr. No effort at all...just "SNAP".
    FKNG Nissans :p

Once we have heads back it's time for "Tech Day 2" :D

I thought it was the end of the world lol

Then when i dropped the heads off and started telling the guy, he said "ah yeah, snapped a stud hey" in a "happens all the time" voice

They'll get it out for an extra $10 :D

So Ross....how many should I order? lol

Or if anyone can donate 1 (or some just in case) that'd be awesome.

    Wallet is feeling it lol
