    Hi folks,

I have a pair of VG heads and intake manifold to ship to the mainland. What would be the best and safest way of sending? I'm guessing bubble wrapping isn't really going to cut it. But fixing to a crate seems a bit extreme.

    Suggestions please?

With heavier items (aprox. 40kg+) the freight companies note that a Tailgate lift is required and slap a $75 fee on top of shipping.
Really sucks paying $75 to pick up and then another $75 to deliver. That's $150 on top of shipping expenses!!

Im trying to ship a Auto tranny atm. I usually make up my own pallet for the heavy parts.

I gave this one a quick varnish and wheels are $2.00 each at Bunnings.

If your shipping Heads etc. a piece of 15-20mm MDF on wheels ?

Mate id just bubble wrap and put each one in a separate box. They're not THAT heavy (compared to gearbox or similar) nor made of glass....

Brand new oem heads just come in a cardboard box, coz then put them in a bigger box with expanding foam packaging around them.

I would wrap them in towels or something and box em up with scrunched up newspaper to pack out the box.

Yeah, I think I'll make a small box for each head and pack with bubble wrap and just bubble wrap the intake manifold as is & send as three items.

I am sending the heads with the cam covers fitted. Do you think it would be dodgy to cut some MDF to size to sit the combustion camber side on and just wrap with bubble wrap?

    Pack them in individual boxes.
You will probably be charged on weight rather than volume.
Perhaps, place a piece of heavy cardboard between the heads & bolt them together.

You worry too much. They are pretty tough and very hard to break. I used to get a few plasma TV boxes from JB and cut them into head and a bit wide strips and roll the heads in the cardboard. You should be able to put about 4 times around and wrap packing tape around them.

That's more than enough. Suggest strap them up so the postie can lift them easy.

They are under 20KG each so you can post them as 2 packages.

I have done this a few times

Buy the boxes on ebay ( right size ) I put extra card board on the sides bottom ,thin rubber/neoprene sheet on face...the part that matters most if damaged

    Approx 19kg per box

    Cool thanks, Rob.

Got a link to where you buy the boxes from? Sounds like the easiest way for a man without much time on his hands.
