Heads up I was doing some servicing not long ago and thought I would throw a fuel filter on as it was in stock.
It started leaking from the seam where the top cap is crimped on not even under load just idling ended up returning it and fitting the 6 year old ryco that doesn't leak, will only use oem from now on.

As someone who works for repco and has sold heaps of ryco filters, in the past, i think you were very unlucky to buy one that was defective, knowing ryco they woukd accept a warranty on that no problems and you coukd be refunded or replaced with a new filter. I also dont think buying an oem filter would make a difference to your situation as nissan dont make filters at all and instead are supplied by a filter manufacture like ryco to make filters for all of the cars in that manufactures fleet that meet the filter needs of each car.

The only difference you need to know is that one filter is made by ryco and the other is made by ryco but has a nissan logo printed on it.

I don't think Ryco manufacture Nissan fuel filters (in fact I'm sure they don't) but that being said there's no reason to think that Ryco or any other quality aftermarket fuel filter is inferior to an OE fuel filter. In the case of Ryco specifically you're talking about an Australian company that's been in business for... 76 years, with a list of industry accreditations and certifications a mile long.

In many cases if you look at filtration specs, materials, etc etc aftermarket fuel/oil/air filters are superior.

Possible manufacturing defect although that would be very surprising from Ryco. Or damaged somewhere between leaving the factory and ending up on your car.

Its hard to say what happened, the packaging was in perfect condition there was no damage to the filter it just didn't seal correctly, they did offer an exchange I just couldn't be bothered to test if its a whole batch of post covid manufacturing defects or a one off and I would constantly have to check the replacement to see if its leaking (no confidence in the product) . To be clear I fitted filter ran car everything was fine next day was going for a drive thought I would check over as I did some other servicing and noticed it wasn't sealed. I would of thought oem was made in japan?

You are correct rob, they differently don't make filters for nissan, i guess i should have said as an example "if ryco did make filters for nissan etc etc". Because im sure there is a japanese company that are like ryco over there and do supply nissan with oem filters like what i was saying. My bad i was hoping everyone would get what i meant in my example.

Funny enough the brits swear by oem filters and parts from what ive seen on the uk 300zx forums and claim that oem have the best quality compared to aftermarket equivalence and i wonder what they will do when nissan no longer makes service parts for our cars anymore and they will have ro rely on aftermarket options in the future.

Ryco had some quality control issues when they increased Chinese manufacturing a couple of years ago. Not saying that is the cause here, however every part has some level of acceptable failure rate. Although, as far as I'm aware Ryco are/were never an OEM supplier like Mann or Gates etc.

Regarding the British, they don't exactly have a great track record with Domestic manufacturers so Japanese quality would definitely stand out. I had an MG a few years ago and found the . Best part was the company motto on all the Lucas spare parts boxes... "Trust Lucas" - nearly fell off my chair with that one. (If you don't get it, Google Joseph Lucas the prince of darkness).

Agreed. Much as we all love these 30 plus year old cars we don't need to be looking for consumables that date back to the late 80's because OEM.

Ryzan I'm old enough to get that. Rural upbringing, think farm machinery as well as cars.

Lucas was the go to but failures were common back then. All we could do was shrug and wear it until better made parts came along.
And back then QA was just a duck clearing its' throat before quacking.
