Ross Racing Harmonic Balancer with Crank Trigger Wheel

    Giant big mega warning to haltech users!!!!

    If you are running a plugin from Haltech the only trigger arrangement you can run, other than the stock triggerdisk (360 + 6), is "Multitooth 24 and 1".
    What Haltech meens by this is that you replace your triggerdisk in the CAS with a 24 + 1 disk. Meening the disk needs to be on the cam!

    What this meens for potential ROSS buyers (that have Haltech plug ins) is that the ROSS triggerwheel can only have 12 theeth (Two crankrevolutions equals one cam revolution) to work with this particular setup.... Also this meens that there can be NO MISSING THEETH on this one (Did i ever mention i dont like Haltechs?)

    One "fix" to this incase ROOS wont make three different dampers is to just hack off every other thoot on the wheel they get, and paint it. But i suppose not everyone can make themselfs do that to their new 900$ damper.

    Thanks that's good to know and another question for when they call back... They'll do 12 teeth wheels no problem (the bulk of their product is for RB motors) and 36-2; I guess the thing at this stage is to make the product as "universal" as possible.

    Might be a silly question, but is there anything stopping BlackBeast getting a trigger disc fitted to the Luke's of that balancer as seen in the pics?

    It may be possible to have it modified but that's something he'd need to chase up separately

    Neither part number appears in the "regular" catalogue so it's possible that 306515/306520 is a supercession thing

    There's a very large field of research across a variety of disciplines dedicated to getting noise out of analogue signals and improving resolution, I would be surprised if Haltech weren't utilising at least a little bit of it. Unlikely to be as good as having a better signal to start with but I wouldn't jump to the conclusion there's no improvement.

    Just found out today from Ben who has been on the phone with Haltech and the filtering doesn't just mask the problem ,it actually improves it.

    Surely the filtering has to improve the quality of the signal

    Haltech ECU program would be removing the high frequency components of the signal as they know the rpm is not going to bounce around +/- several hundred of rpms within a certain time window. The best is to have a good quality signal to start with and some noise filtering from the Haltech program (I assume it's all done in software with digital noise filtering and not using analogue filtering with discrete components.)

    It was designed to work with stock valvetrain. Yours is no where near stock.
    Regardless of filtering or not the CAS is meerly guessing where the crank is at.

    Haltech may have improved upon it but when the lines is baby smooth it IS masking a problem. Cause the signal ISNT baby smooth.
    There is a reason people have designed cranktriggers for CAS driven engines. (just not VG`s. Yet)
    Besides, what are Haltech really gonna say about what they do? Like, "naaaah, its not that good anyway"

    Shoot Glenn a pm and ask about his experience with it.

    And watch the webinars i suggested (you lazy f..ks).

    Here is a portion of the log i have. Remember, stock cas disk, JWT valvesprings, JWT 500 cams. Does it look remotely natural?

    No thats a good point, and it doesnt really bounce around like that. Or.. the crank isnt. But the CAS is and THATS the problem. And with it timing will bounce around to.

    Where did I say trigger is not a better set up .?

    I questioned the filtering myself and merely responded with the feed back from haltech ..

    I will be looking at a trigger set up at some stage.

    "I used 36 - 2 on mine, less is better for stupid mental mad race motors with aggressive cams etc.


    Trigger wheel system outperforms the OEM system by at least 30 - 40KWs when things are being pushed as hard as possible."

    As far as I can see you will still need to run a cam sync with 36-2 as the ECU doesn't have any way to determine which cycle the crank is on; assuming of course that you still want the option for full sequential.

    Can we stop getting confusing??

    Edit**** went full retard.

    Soo haltech 24+1 in CAS and 36+2 on balancer with ecu only reading every forth tooth?

    For haltech plug in you want 12 tooth trigger on the crank & the AEM cas disc
