    Howdy gang,

My starter motor is starting to play up (not engaging with flywheel and grinding). I can't seem to get it off the top stud.

I can't remember having this trouble when I removed it from my previous Z, but that had an aftermarket exhaust.

So my question is, should I be able to remove it without having to drop the standard exhaust (test pipe)?

Yes - you should be able to get it off without exhaust

If its hard to get off the top stud - you may have a washer there that's tight and preventing it from coming off - pry the washer off first with a screwdriver - then it will come off easily.

So it makes a huge difference if you remove the shield from the starter

Yep, even better than Richard Hammonds.

Very clean in there too, I'm guessing ceramic clutch?

No idea, haven't had it apart during ownership.
