Thought this might be of interest to those yet to fit an illuminated rear panel.

When I had considered fitting a panel, having to run a wire from a switch up front to the rear annoyed me, the option of just having one in the rear annoyed me also, you cant turn it off and on while driving.

Just saw these and thought they were a neat solution.

Not sure how the PWM dimming will effect the EL strips inverter but you will be able to switch on and off at least, with out having to run a wire and mount a switch.

    Cheaper on eBay.

This would be fitted between 12V and the EL inverter.

I guess I always thought I would like to choose to be conspicuous or not, sometimes it doesn't pay to be that identifiable. :br:

How do you intend to get your car to change shape(given that that is the most obvious indication for identifying it)?:p:rolleyes::rofl::br:

I would explain but I doubt you would understand.

Try to contribute something other then your bad attitude please. ;)

Since when is it bad manners to ask why you would fit an Illuminated Rear Panel(which under normal conditions)would be illuminated whenever you turn on your H/lights/parkers, and then want to switch it on and off periodically?
Your claim to not want to be "conspicuous" seems slightly 'out of whack' when you are driving one of the most 'conspicuous' cars on our roads.:p

I have had a similar rear panel fitted for over ten years and have never had one instance where it was questioned(or drew undue/unwanted attention).
If asking you to clarify your reasoning is seen as "offensive" and/or bad manners, then I would respectfully suggest that you may need an attitude
    adjustment, rather than I.
BTW, having it turn on & off for no apparent reason would most likely attract much more "unwanted attention" than anything else you could possibly do(as it would most probably be seen to be distracting to other drivers).:br:

A Z32 without an illuminated rear centre panel is inconspicuous?
Just kind of blend in I guess.

How you come up with stuff Chili is unbelievable.

It makes it hard to attribute you with any integrity, and in instances give you any benefit of doubt as to sincerity of the intentions of your posts.

IMO its individuals like you that are at the core of "whats wrong with the forum".

Its simply becomes a place people don't want to be or contribute in fear of getting caught up in an imbecilic exchange with a master of it like you.

Generally illuminated rear panels are only noticeable at night, so may we consider this conversation about conspicuousness at night ?

For those having trouble, at night cars ,,, in the dark,,,, in columns of traffic ,,,,, become mainly conspicuous buy their lighting.

For instance HID's, what gets you pulled up are the HID's not the shape of the car ,,, remember its dark !

Another thing that makes you noticeable ,,, at night ,,,, in the dark, is having a tail light out ,,,, some of you may of noticed that its very easy to notice and track a car through busy traffic, another one is having a headlight out, again very easy to notice and draw attention.

When trying to avoid undue special attention from the police ,,,, at night ,,, in the dark, having exterior lighting that stands out will draw attention and that will convert to additional attention you may or may not want, weather it be from officer plod or some punk who wants to shadow you so he can look at your fancy rear panel, or simply drawing attention and effecting the concentration of other drivers.

Needless to say there would be times when you would like to have it on or off IMO.

As an ex member of the force Chilli you of all people should know that neons and cops don't mix.

Starting to see you as the forum troll, your old enough to know better.

OP has been nice enough to link us a product which could be very handy for multiple uses and all you bring to the plate is an argument about how conspicuous a Zed is.

    Stay on topic please.

To save this thread I'll no longer post in it but wanted to say thanks again for linking me a cheap radio controlled on off switch with diming capabilities brisz.

This is getting really old guys, really f***ing old. Part of the reason why there's less activity on the forum.

So now we have both had our say lets move on.

Anyone with a blue neon rear garnish is by definition is illegal if the car is in motion. eg not parked.
Having ability to turn the garnish off while in motion would be an advantage.

Cheers Graham, Im glad someone knows the law!,

I was looking for the law that stated that yesterday as i was certain that any illuminated panel is illegal whilst moving, and even when not moving we are limited to the colors which are allowed due to emergency vehicles using those colors.

Ultimately, unless the manufacture of the light gives a spectrum frequency to the light you legally cannot fit it because you cannot prove its not an emergency color.

Its not the illuminated panel while moving, but the colour.
acceptable colours are red, amber, green facing rearwards. Amber, white, facing forwards.

Any under car neon's are classified as a "distraction" to other drivers. That one is open to subjection.

You can display your car anyway you like, but as soon as you place the key into the ignition it is classified as "moving"

Eg. if you stagger out of the pub/club well over the limit and sit in the drivers seat to "sleep it off", as long as the keys are not in the ignition you are safe.
Just placing the keys in the ignition to listen to the stereo shows intent to drive and you can be done for DUI.

Furthermore on top of that, according to the latest bit of ADR ive read regarding lighting, under car lighting is permissible given that the light source is not visible. Flashing lights or lights that change colour whilst driving regardless of whether the source is visible is illegal. In car lighting however is legal. You can have whatever colour you like and as much of it. That being said it will attract attention.

So if you do get this remote dont go turning it on and off while driving.

At no point in time have I ever claimed that having such illumination was "legal", only that it was NOT something that attracted undue attention from the Police(based on my experience during the past 10+ years of usage in NSW, QLD & ACT).

I know I digress here, but if it were blue (as some panels are) that would be a problem in the eyes of the law.

And at no point did I state that you had implied it was a legal modification.

I'm just glad Graham has brought up the legalities of car lighting so people who are not as low key as yourself know what they can and cannot get fined for, and decide how conspicuous they will be from there.

Not trying to be personal Lloyd but when was your last infringement notice? I'd take it your a pretty safe driver/clean record.
Your not a p plater with a car full of kids, music pumping and such. They have enough to worry about with adding apotential lighting fine.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with us regardless.

Reading a post from another forum I've found that police like to ask what aftermarket dash mounted buttons are for. If its on a key ring they'll think its an immobilizer
