Has anyone here got 4.11 Leader Gears & Quaife Diff setup for their R230 diff? If so did you do it yourself or did you get a diff specialist to do it. Not sure if I can trust a workshop to put the effort in required to set the backlash, preload and teeth engagement correctly. I haven't taken my spare diff apart yet but it looks like it uses a crush tube and hence doesn't require shims on the pinion gear but there's shims required on the diff sides for setting the backlash.
I had this exact arrangement installed by Diff Technics at Kogarah, in Sydney. Handed them a complete used diff, Leader Gears & Quaife centre. One of the two output shafts will require shortening when installing the Quaife. They also did the removal & install in the vehicle. Had no issues with the workmanship or the diff. If you go back through past posts on Leader Gears, you'll find a number of members that had them installed were complaining of diff whine.
Factory uses a crush tube on the pinion, you can use a crush tube with the 4.11 gears but it is more accurate to use a solid spacer and shims, but takes a fair bit more time and attention to detail to setup correctly.
@chewy i bought the diff from this thread https://aus300zx.com/xenforo/index.php?threads/performance-parts-wrecking-car.327468/ a while back -point being he’s local (ish) to you and can probably tell you who did the job if you can get in touch via PM
I would definitly take it to a Diff shop. And yes they will take the time to get the backlash etc correct. It would just be a heap of warranty work for them if they didn't. I installed my own Nismo LSD, but that was with factory gears and the backlash and engagement was all correct thankfully!
