Big cheers to all who organised the day

It's always good to be with a gathering of zeds - even if I was the lowest tt score...

Interested to see that my previous run was 143 or something like that, but with a pod filter and even the hot temps I made 156kw... Happy for a $70 filter...

    Preventing engine meltdown 101

;)#1 Run less than 30[sup]0[/sup] of base ignition timing (which is what Ben's zed was originally set at )

;)#2 Ensure your turbo boost pressure is restricted (which Ben's wasn't )

;)#3 Ensure your ECU is tuned for aussie octane (which Ben's wasn't )

The only thing we could control on the day was to bump back the CAS timing which we set @ 17[sup]0[/sup]...

Interestingly, the dyno guys allowed me in Bens car during the dyno run with Datascan temporarily altering timing I was able to increase peak power from 203RWKW @ 17[sup]0[/sup] to 216RWKW @ 22[sup]0[/sup]. That would have to be the absolute limit though and it was at the expense of very poor low RPM power.

Not something I would suggest in any way to do in an uncontrolled enviroment such as everyday driving, nor would I have manually set Ben's timing any higher than the 17[sup]0[/sup] (even had he asked me to)... especially with the other worrying 'unknown' factors above...

PS: Ben, hope the drive home wasn't too slow (now you are running correct timing!)

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

 I think i'm a perfect example of what NOT to do

naa, she's running beautifully. - and no Mark, the trip home was fine. Can't really tell any difference.

Except for that warm fuzzy feeling inside knowing my Zed is NOW running in "safe" mode.. ;);)

    Thanks again mate.

    Estimated losses?

I ran 121.7kW on the weekend and last time on the dyno ran 124.5kW (before UD pully and pod filter). Mind you only 2 kW short of AZA (but tired engine mind you). I was expecting near 130kW, I guessing I lost nearly 10kW due to heat, and perhaps different dyno.

Just wondering how much others lost? or thought they lost?

    Re: Estimated losses?

I ran 33kw lower than my last run @ the same boost level - but that was @ APC, who I have little to no faith in regarding honesty.

    Re: Estimated losses?

Alistair said that the heat will have had an impact.

The Dyno tries to compensates for HP loss due to heat, but it everyones engines will react differently in the hot weather too.

I expect if the ambient temps were 20 degs instead of 40, then we would have all been 5-10% better on the score sheet ;)

Bloody Spring heat wave. Can't wait for summer :wacko::wacko::wacko::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::(:(:(:(

i was about 18kw behind my best >

i think due to heat and engine not running 100% at the moment had a big effect i also ran at standard 15deg timing and not at about 18-19deg in march at my last one.

    my best has been 229kW...

but... that was after 2 hours of dyno tuning. After fixing a lot of things, my car is running better than ever, i think i need an ECU clear to rid it of it learning some bad settings...

The power on my chart climbs steadily up to 5000 rpm then flattens off.

With my max power at approx 5500 RPM, boost had trailed off to approx 14psi at that point due to the heat and the intake charge heating up. Bigger intercoolers should see my max power be later in the rev range as this will mean my charge will be cooler and denser at higher RPM (thats if my stock(ish) turbos can flow anymore... )

Quite happy with the result!

    My first dyno run...

So I wasn't sure what to expect. But I suppose 164.2kW for a stock TT Z is about right in that heat. Did show boost of just over 10psi though so maybe my car came with boost jets installed from Japan?

Quite frankly I was just glad it came off the dyno without internal mayhem taking place:LOL: I felt like an expectant father in the waiting room:LOL::LOL:

Great day though but boy was I dehydrated when I got home.:)

    Losses

I actually didn't have any losses... The first time I had her on a dyno it spun 143kw and now, with only adding a POD it spun 156kw - even with the heat!:zlove:

Cliff, you should celebrate the fact that you tore that engine

completely down and rebuilt it with your own hands and it pulls a similar power output to a factory fresh motor ...

Not many others there that day who have achieved what you have in my opinion
