the rep guy hasnt been out yet. the issue is with the markings

on the belt that are used to line up for fitment. the markings are slightly out, so if the belt is setup using those markings for alignment, then it will be installed incorrectly.

    that's bullshit Fleet >>

Emmanuel first posted saying that the belt was 2-3mm longer (see here) and made no mention of the timing belt marks being out. In fact in that post he said the timing belt marks lined up

So what the bloody hell gives here. The story keeps changing - is this because like most mechanics they can't admit to a mistake.

Obviously he can't be on the forum 24/7.

    Unlike some of us

I think he's to busy fixing my car ;)

Chewy we know you have a personal grudge against Emanuel so

rather than post your comments here why dont you ring him and stop trying to pick a arguement, Whilst some of us are interested to find out what is wrong with the belt. I think you are going about it the wrong way and trying to start an arguement. You may not be winning any friends for yourself. MIKEA

I really don't give a shit if I win friends here or not I just want to know

along with a lot of other people what was the final judgement on the belt. If Emmanuel comes on here scaremongering about a Dayco belt being incorrectly made and I see conflicting explanations of why it was not correct then I want to know the truth and resolve the issue. This all goes to show how poor Emmanuel is at following things up and keeping people uptodate.

You have poor RedZedMikey with a dayco timing belt wondering if he should replace it or not based on what Emmanuel comes back with - don't you think it would be nice to inform RZM where he stands?

I'm not going to ring as I want Emmanuel to post in his own words what is wrong with the belt. Is it incorrect markings or is the belt too long - we still have no answers to this.

I see what you are doing by protecting your mechanic and keeping in his good books - fine you go ahead and do that but I'd be posting exactly the same posts if it were any other mechanic as well.

Chewy you are really good at picking mechanics

as it was you who recommend AMEC along with Chapman and Chapman when I asked you who you would recommend for a engine rebuild.
Seeing you have bagged both, I wouldnt believe any of your recommendations at all .

I don't give a shit if people take my recommendations or not.

Also I have the right to change my mind after personal experience. I've helped you in the past Mike but when you say you wouldn't believe any of my recommendations then it may be best if you never ask for my advice ever again cause I won't be wasting my time giving recommendations to you as you won't believe them anyway.

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

Agreed .... As the photo shows

The Dayco belt has been on my car for over 11 months and done over 20,000km. My level of mechanical ineptitude is fairly high, and I am not aware of a possible problem, but I don't know what to look for or how to check it. For 9 months I was blissfully unaware that there might be a problem - but since this issue was raised all I have wanted is an answer - SHOULD I BE CONCERNED OR NOT??!!

    Thanks chewy .

quite frankly, i am amazed .. whether the dayco belt is faulty or not,

this issue has been on the books for so long that any company as a manufacturer .. or a retailer .. should have had it resolved within days not weeks .. where the hell is the customer in this exercise..totally irrelevant ..??

simply not good enough from a customer perspective .. time to pull the finger out and drive it to a very quick solution ..!!!

the rep was supposed to be here for indy .. you can be sure that he is back in melbourne now .. so do we wait for possible visit, come next indy ..WTF ..!!!

Agreed Baz. The problem as I see it is not that the belt

was faulty (whatever the reason(s)???) because manufacturing tolerances can slip over time - machines are after all only human - but rather the lack of interest in the rep/Dayco to discuss/fix/resolve the prob quickly.

This has done more damage to Dayco's rep IMO than a suspect batch of belts...
