I decided to buy this damaged Z as a winter project to keep me occupied during the winter months Only cost $1900 so not to much risk involved I thought. CBH who I work for here in WA have been very generous allowing me to do the major fab work at their workshops. [/IMG] So it's looking pretty rough, front end gone, radiator support badly damaged, upper front bar mounts all pushed in, broken screen and interior pretty sa and very wet. So, lets see what I can make of it and how far will I go.
I have spent about $1300 so far. Most parts have come from a couple local of guys that are wrecking their cars, unfortunatly have blown a head gasket after the first run so the repair bill for that will bump up the spend. That was nothing to do with the crash though, I foolishly left my spare coolant behind on that first run and paid the price.
Straightening out the front end, before and after. The rad support was pushed up and back about 60mm, Guard and RH front bar mounting points the same damage. The chassis and suspension is all fine though so it's really just panel straightening work.
Fitting up the new front end. Radiator support pulled back into place/straightened/cut open/ beaten back into shape/ welded shut. Playing around with carbon fiber vinyl wrap during the winter evenings, looks quite effective but I'm guessing it will all start peeling when the heat gets to it Front end pretty much back together
Plenum hose removal Tidying up the plenum while the heads are off. I really enjoy pulling off unnecessary crap. All going in the bin.

looks much better after the work was done. which panel basher? and is that a brand new a/c condensor?
Love the carbon look engine cover and radiator cowl. Did you have them hydro dipped or purchased them done?
Carbon look Hi Sketchy, I have just used carbon fiber vinyl wrap. I may well all peel off when it gets too hot but I was bored on those long winter nights so just started playing around with the stuff. The car was stuck at work during that time so was getting frustrated not being able to do much on it.
Looking at the photos, Is that a series 1 PTU bolted up backwards?
Yep looks like it, don't worry, looks like this now
while your engine is in so many nits this is the perfect opportunity to do a few of the pain the arse things on the zed. one thing thats springing to mind from that pic is the fuel hoses that run from under the car up to the filter and the related return line. may as well replace while theres not a turbo and exhaust hanging in the way.....
Getting some help Don't worry, thats a hi vis tutu she's wearing. Tidying up wiring while I'm in there Finally going back in
