$1500 For a reco? I'm having my motor rebuilt ATM and it is
quite a bit more than that price. Average price for a rebuild is over $6k.
The gasket kit alone is near to $600.
Are they fitting anything new to this engine or just a hone and a slap in
the old stuff? Check out what they have done or claim to be doing
for this amount of money as it seems way to cheap, even as a favour.

    Rebuilt/recon?

    Or just 2nd hand.

About right for a 2nd hand NA engine with nothing done to it. But as Ports has said - Gasket kit say $600 plus rings and bearings, valves reground, heads done, bores honed, injectors cleaned plus you'd want the timing belt changed and all new hoses - your looking at least $3000-3500 plus fitting.

Mine rounded out at about $8K. I did the removal/installation/bling (twice)

    IB ?????

Are you sure that wasn't just the labour to R&R?

Most shops charge about $1,000 to remove and re-install the engine....
