    hI EVERYONE.....

JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE HAD ANY IDEA ABOUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY ZX?

I have no idea what the the problem is and neither does any mechanic i take it to....

Just recently when driving at about 100k's or less the car just started to lose power and gradually drop down the revs until it came to a stop......

Even when i put the foot down it goes no where... just jolts and gradually loses power, i struggled to get home. stopping and starting about 50 times.

But then a few days later i drove it it was fine! nothing wrong with it.

So then i took it to the mechanics and he said it sounded like the fuel fump was on its way out, so i had a new one fitted, and a service etc...

After this the car was fine again for a couple of weeks... i thought the problem was fixed,

Until last night the same thing happened again but much worse...

I was driving on the ballarat road when all of a sudden the car just started jolting and revving like crazy!

Then if i tried to accellerate it would jolt and lose power, until eventually it would just stall.

Then if i tried to start the car straight away it would start and then stall again.

When started at a standstill, the needle on the RPM meter fluctuates between the 2 and 3 really fast as if im putting my foot on and off the accellerator really fast but i didnt have my foot on the pedal...

Then if i try and take off the car really struggles... i have my foot on the pedal but it isn't going anywhere, just sometimes it kicks in and goes for a bit and then loses power.

However i have driven the car at other times with out a worry.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?????

It cant be fuel pump or battery cos i just had new ones put in and a service..

If anyone knows or has the slightest idea please get back to me!!

    Cheers:confused:

AFM or CAS, get someone in your area with datascan to take a look at it, and scan for fault codes, clean and tighten electrical connections and clear the codes

sounds like it could be ...

    the classic PTU problem...

if not, id be 90% confident that it would be electrical/electronic. in a place of high heat causing "dry joints" (which is what causes PTU failure, well it did in mine) other things to consider would be the CAS and possibly but unlikely AFM

other considerations would be the connectors that attach to each of these parts. these are know to corrode and cause poor contact.

I am gonna go with AFM or CAS too. Really need to check it on datascan to be sure tho.

i cant see it being the AFM.. as the car can still be driven fine just with a 2500rpm limit...
could very well be a ptu on its last legs..

Exactly same thing happened to me

    a little while back

I'd say its the AFM (Air Flow Meter), i swapped mine over and worked great again, how mine stuffed up was it got soaked with water, water + electrics = bad news :(

well thats because of the water vents you have in your nose panel isnt it,sorry air vents :D lol i never have worked out the benefits of that style other than to let a load of water and dust into the engine bay ????

I had something similar happen and it turned out to be the CAS plug. Give that and the PTU connections a clean to see if it makes any difference before you start replacing things (unlike me lol)

you say it can be driven fine to 2500rpm?

id dissagree then. a faulty AFM is a prime candidate for limp mode(limp mode enables the rev limiter) limp mode is enabled to keep the engine within the closed loop area of the fuel maps. thus the ECU is still able calculate the correct fuel based on the o2 sensor readings. this keeps the engine running safely.

im not sure of all the conditions that the ecu enters limp mode but failing AFM will certainly cause this..

its only a small job to swap one and id highly recomend borrowing one to test.

its only a few weeks ago i had to help out our mechanic ( which im not one my self) with an electrical issue on a patrol. after a few minutes i diagnosed it as afm. gave it a quick blast with an air hose. has been running fine since. this afm being off a 4wd in the bush had been jammed up with fine dust that had got past the air filter.

even if its not the AFM its quick and easy to check if you have access to a spare.

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

    Sure do Simon.

And people wonder why i filled in my vents. Exactly for this reason. ;)

also do a search on recommended mechanics in Melbourne, not many shops know how to solve some of the zeds quirks.

    where do you live??

It sounds like you need some help from someone who knows a bit about zeds. I dont live far from ballarat rd. You can drop by and I'll have a look at it. Let me know if you want to come past. I'll be home tonight. My mobile number is 0410692577.

    Cheers
