Finally got around to painting my calipers this weekend!! And while i was at it, i had got rid of the chronic rust on my rotors!!

Check it out! It wasn't pretty!!

    Yuck!

Steady hands.... lots of practice from painting my nails for years!!

    And the result...

I'm undecided if the matt black on the rotors just looks like a really bad build up of brake dust.... but i didn't want to make it gloss and take away attention from the wheels and pretty calipers. I will eventually go over the Nissan again with the same colour as my car when i get the spare paint off my sprayer.

The best bit is i did it all myself!!! (maybe Timmy helped me a little bit with tightening up bolts and stuff.... don't want my wheels falling off!!)

Good work Haylz, it is such a great feeling to do your own mods (and not just pay someone to do it :p) I did my calipers a year ago or so now, get comments all the time! little, but good addition to the overall package!

    Cheers, Andrew

    Nicw work Hayley...

I found it the opposite, I'm a lot better at painting my nails now after painting my brakes.

Hope you cleaned them well first, or you'll find that it will start to fall/chip off. So you painted it ALL by brush???

If you don't like the look of the matt black, you could try satin black :)

no, i sprayed them black first and just painted the Nissan with a brush.

I cleaned them good!! with a wire brush thing on the drill and brake cleaner...

my nails ended up a little dirty, some grease under my nails that i just couldn't get out, so i just painted my nails black last night!!! lol :D

Another way to do the Nissan letters...

That looks very good -- there's another way to do the letters for those with less painting skills. Do the normal paint prep, degrease everything and use a wire brush or dremel wire wheel for all the nook and crannies. Spray the letters with your choice of color (white, silver, etc) and let dry at least 1 day - it needs to be fully dry!

Take some petroleum jelly and coat the letter tops with a thin film (be very careful to do just the letters -- use a tooth pick to help in getting the grease applied). Spray the calipers with you choice of color and let dry overnight. Use your fingernail to gently scrape the letter tops -- the grease will cause the paint to come off and show the bottom color.

I did one caliper the hard way and three using this method -- this method is much better and doesn't require a steady paint hand. It also works well since the Nissan letters are not flat but have a sliced surface.

    Here's a picture of mine:

    Looking DAMN FINE!!!

And so are the Calipers I guess.

:p Still undecided whether to paint mine or not. Might just bring them down and pay you to paint them :p Wouldn't want to risk breaking one of my own nails. :D

Thats an amazing difference well done Haylz. Are we going to see a Haylz exchange rotor/caliper painting service GB any time soon:D :D :D Just like caz's polishing service.

Its a good use of the wasted space on the rotor due to being the 324mm GTR ones andf I think the Matt black looks the goods.

    Well done HaylZ!

It's always a good feeling when you can do something yourself like that!

And it looks so much better - did mine last weekend and went from this:

Looks tops mate. Not that I can really tell from the photo's but don't be affraid of doing them gloss, especially black. I find that my calpiers actually complement my wheels although I want to do them again and out more than two coats for an even glossier finish :D I also think I will do the same as you and paint the Nissan white. I left mine polished and do look good but I think white would be better.

I actually used some left over VHT silver paint I used on my plenum. Doesn't look too bad, but white would be even better! :D

    I just love blue...

    ...and black (of course!)
