I thought GB's were run through the stater ( you ) not passed on behind the sences to UAS, if they had the time , inferstructure to email, send invoices, collect funds during the GB, then why hide behind you and not post the T and C 's at the start and control it from start to finish.

ross you are another one trying to make a simple process seem complicated and mysterious. Sorry mate but tonight I'm not biting.

    Also it's "infrastructure".

ffs mate give it a rest, what is with your vendetta? Just come out with it already...

Rob organized a group buy with a supplier for large body parts & was quite open about the fact we would be paying uas direct & uas would be shipping direct to us (the buyers). As a result we (the buyers) had some correspondence with uas regarding shipping that you (the non particitating random) was not privy too. What's the problem, why weren't you bringing all these issue's up in the leather interior gb that worked the same way?

Niall, in the circumstances, a fair, sensible and reasonable solution but even that has been challenged.

here we have a young, Zedder, an early G/B participant who, in good faith, has waited 6 months for his $900 damaged purchase to arrive: "wrapped in a minimum of one sheet of bubble wrap" !!! - just glad that we cannot go much lower than a minimum of one sheet !!!.

having done all that was required of him, that Zedder is then charged with an "unreasonable or over inflated" quote. a big apology might have been more appropriate ????

talk about a pricing "double jeopardy". as a money saver, the bar was packed for a price of next to nothing. the repair quote is then rejected on price. clearly price is important to one party - the other party is shafted from every angle !!!

through no fault of his own, Scott now has to fight for his rights having done nothing wrong in any sense when he has every right to expect to be looked after. hopefully he is able to arrive at an equitable solution, one satisfactory to him.

amongst all this, we now have a concerted attack on a Moderator to accompany the earlier numerous personal attacks and abuse of individual members - a sad state of affairs.

At this point i would like to thank the Admin team for there help and support in the matter and anyone else who has shown there sympathy and support in the situation and search for a solution.

I had Spoken with several Mods with regard to the current outcome and what was said between myself and UAS.. Knowing what would come of it i held back from posting that information untill further talks had been made with UAS and to give them the chance to put things right... but after those " Blind to the problem msges" i had enough of defending them when im the one being shafted and i wasn't about to let it all this be swept aside without everyone seeing the outcome, I have nothing to hide... and so here we are..

yes at the request of UAS there were 2 qoutes ( works listed, dated on company letterheads) scanned then emailed to uas the cheapest being 494.50+GST (543) however this is top $$ work
no this doesnt' include fitting prep or paint, I will be fitting doing the prep myself and the quote for the paint job for 2tone was $340 which is about the same i had from another painter who did my front bar..so sorry rob but this aint sydney you would be lucky to get prep and paint on that bar here for $543 let alone the thing repaired fitted prepped and painted
I agree the repair seems a little high but thats my fault how?? and maybe the other damaged bar was $120 but it has nowhere near the amount of damge as mine why use as a comparison??, I gave the option to UAS of paying the 66% toward the repair and ill pay the difference and hopefully they save face that way i keep my bar and it gets fixed..If i had known they were coming in a pissy single sheet of bublewrap i would happilly pay an extra few dollars for a box.. it seems they went with the "we need to save as much $$ as we can and maximise the profit".. and look what happens when corners are cut.

why should i be the one to suffer when i have done no wrong, I've done what they have asked and apart from wait a very long time for something expensive and hard to get only to recieve a damaged item.. which the person who is at fault for the damage wont repair and only offers a solution thats "reasonable" TO THEM!

$500 is an obscene amount for a fibreglass repair like that.

You are asking the wrong companies.

Suggest you look for a boat repairer on the gold coast. I would expect $150 max. If you where in Melbourne I would fix it for you. It isnt hard.

BTW I would be pretty pissed if I was JP and my PM's where published here without my permisssion. IMO Barry you have been too involved in this for someone who wasnt in the GB. If you want to help with a resolution do it in the back ground.

You have misunderstood the role a Moderator SHOULD have taken in this circumstance.

    A solution?

why dont you see if Ztoy (Al) can fix it for you, he does good work and would be very well priced. Shit how many fibreglass bits is he in production of at the moment, a repair like this should be right up his alley?

c'mon guys where is this figure for $120-$150 coming from to fix this bar that you can only see in pictures.

With a big crack it will need to be heavily reinforced to get back some of the original strength, then the cracks need to be drilled and grooved out for a good filler job. sanded, then a coat of topstop to take out the pinholes.

Scott might be taking this item to places that do top notch work , but this is his right surely. Its a 900 dollar item, not an ebay copy for 200.

Like i said before i think this case is pretty simple. UAS pay 66% of 530 being 370 and just get on with it

Ummm, I just relooked at the pics. Its NOT broken in 2. It only has a number of cracks. Its going to be painted. Provided the cracks are not visible after painting and its as strong as originally. Thats all that can be expected.

I have repaired heaps of parts like this and its NOT rocket science. ITS FIBREGLASS. You can get a whole transom replaced in a small glass boat for a little over $1000.

$500 is a rip arse price plain and simple. Go to a boat repair shop. Asking a panel beater to repair this is stupid.

    1) They dont usually work with glass,
    2) They like insurance jobs where they can make HUGE money QUICK.
    3) They will probably use a heap of bog which isnt good (but its what they know)
    4) a Boat repair shop will do a better job with less OR NO filler.

tHE CORRECT PROCESS FOR THIS IS

Push and twist all the cracks back into place untill perfect then glue with thin cynoacrylate.
Dremel the gellcoat down 15mm each side of the break on on the front until you reach glass, double up with woven glass, layer on layer till thickness is correct.
Sand down then fill with Plastibond and sand/shape.
Sand rear of crack and double up with 2 layers of woven glass on the back.

The repair is stronger than the original glass and looks like NEW.

Its about 1 1/2-2 hrs work MAX for someone who knows what they are doing

What you and others are referring to are e-mails not forum PM's
These are Business e-mails from Jp and his wife to a customer.
And as such are private and confidential as stated on the e-mails themselves.
Should never have been published,Thats what i was arking up about.

Yet another unfounded accusation not even relating to the current issue.

As for those who are critical of the posting of PM's or email(without the express permission of the parties involved), where was all your indignation when the exact same thing emanated from a Moderator prior to Armidale Zedfest?

The precedent has already been made(and accepted)by the members on here.
The Stable door has been left open, and now another Horse has bolted.

I think that Barry(AB)was just trying to un-muddy the waters, after so much mud-slinging from persons with ulterior motives, unrelated to the real issue of seeing that this matter be satisfactorily settled.

Geez Tekky, you mistakenly think this thread is about fair play and fixing a broken Bar(it may have started out that way, but, as usual it was hijacked).[TIS]

  14. Tektrader

As Wiz has pointed out they are Emails NOT PM's and IMO that is even worse. I would imagine UAS emails are sent in commercial confidence as are most business emails.

From where I sit as an obsever, Barry's input has NOT clarified anything. It has in fact muddied the water even more.

A Mods role is to facilitate a resolution, THAT IS ALL. The correct way to do this is lock the thread if it gets dirty and work behind the scenes to broker a resolution. Then open the thread and post the result. The end !!

There should be NO witch hunt. A lot of the comments could be mis-construed as exactly that.

Issue here is JUST GET IT FIXED WITHOUT RIPPING ANYONE OR COMPANIES ARSE. Then let it go.

I hate seeing people pervert a simple issue and turn it into a crap shoot Lloyd. (maybe its just me) This is easy.

Fix the damn bar and MOVE ON.

I had a broken bar once

The bottom part was snapped in half (and the bar also had years of stone and bug chips, scrapes etc)

It only cost $500 to remove, repair, reinforce, repaint and refit. Looked as good as new. This was also not at the 'cheapest' place either.

I think to repair it for a company is not a big deal. The price to do the above work was the same price as it cost to paint the bar and put it on in the first place :)

Couldn't agree more. This could have been solved right at the outset(if some of the extraneous rubbish had been deleted as per guidelines).

    [/QUOTE]

I definitely agree and stand on this side of the fence. None of this has helped in getting a resolution. Its a farce. $500+ for a repair is too much, and if this is the quote then JP is right to offer a refund. At the end of the day, under trade practices, JP has the right to offer repair, replacement or refund. Obviously going down the route of repair by the OPs quotes is too expensive so JP has the right to refund. If the repair quote is a reasonable $$ value then I'm sure it will be accepted.

And Barry, you seem to have taken this whole affair as a personal offence. There is no doubt in anybodies mind who your siding with here, and really, it's only heating the argument, not moderating it.

I owe the Forum an apology.

It was only this morning that I became aware that those items were emails with all the usual business privilege attaching, and not PMs. It simply didn't occur to me. I have withdrawn the post, and its derivatives, and I will be writing to UAS in these same terms. I don't have the same view of a PM, unless it came with a Private & Confidential or Addressee Eyes Only covenant.

My view of the issue is however unchanged. Scott has been poorly treated from the beginning. Given that I never once strayed from that core issue, it wasn't me that muddied the waters, but I concede I became the vehicle through which the waters were muddied.

However, Scott's most recent post on the subject eloquently puts his case, and I recommend it to all.

Let me conclude this way. I have 40+ years of commercial experience up to director and managing director level, on three continents. Staff of over 350, turnover $80mil plus, over 120,000 clients, and all of that. Though I was in a different industry, I can say without any hesitation that in circumstances analagous as these, I would have asked the Chairman to fly up to Brisbane to personally deliver our industry equivalent of a brand new bar with a free paint job thrown in as compensation for the inconvenience. Never at any stage would the cost of putting the problem right even come up.

That's how I see, and practiced customer service. Others do it differently.

the simple, quick and reasonable solution without all the emotional nonsense being regurgitated:

there appears to be a couple of bars floating around Sydney and not needed for immediate fitting. UAS could grab one of these (to be replaced at a later point) and get this to Scott by their own Courier (stated to be in the area soon).

as stated by UAS, that same Courier could collect the damaged bar for UAS to repair or do whatever they want to do with it.

simple as .... !!! .. it is time to stop all nonsense and do the right thing by the customer.
