NisTune - downloading original maps before installing module?

I'm just about to remove my ECU to install a NisTune module. But, before I do I'd like to download and save all the current mapping, so that once the NisTune is installed, I can re-install this mapping as a basis to work from. And just so we are clear, the current mapping is not stock mapping- I have previously modified it using EPROM burners and so on before the NisTune module was even invented - that's why I'd like to download it before going any further. :D

*EDIT* Yes - I am asking how to do it. (I've tried to work it out but so far no go).

    Is this a question lol.

Yes you can download your current maps using the Nistune software, if that's what you're asking :p

What cable are you using to connect to the diagnostics port?

I've used the ecutalk cable. Was able to save the ecu .bin file without any issues.

Not sure on the model/brand of cable as it was bought here a few years back and there's no markings on it. But it is basically a USB to Serial adaptor hooked to a basic DIY cable to connect to the Consult port. The cable does work with ECUTalk...NisTune etc.

I'll have another go today trying to work out how to save a copy of the current maps...whether it be through NisTune or some other program.

Can't remember the exact steps but once it's connected with the cable and communicating with Nistune, it's pretty straight forward to download your config.

As pointed out - you only need to copy the ECU Bin file.

So the question is really - what software do you have available on you to copy the ECU Bin File?

Once you work this out - you will have your answer.

There are other ways to do it, but using software to download and save from the ECU is the easiest way to do it.

From memory - the Nistune demo won't allow you to but if you purchase the nistune chip and licence you will then have the tools to do it (i.e. get the software first - copy / paste the chip then send the ECU off to have the nistune chip fitted)

The trial software does allow you to. Its limited to 3 uses of 10mins each, but no limitation on the features.

All sorted. I worked it out in the end. It was one of the menu functions of "Download ROM Image" or similar.

I didn't think it was doing anything at first but then noticed a counter on the bottom left of the window that showed the address it was reading from. Took a few minutes, but all good.

Managed to install the NisTune module myself and played a bit further. Now have the original BIN put back into the NisTune and running after a bit of trial and error.

    :D
