Hey everyone, I just acquired my very first 300zx. Bought off a mate for $300, came with a "dead" TT engine, although, after closer inspection, turned out that the coil packs & CAS were not firing.
So far the list of things to do are as follows
    • New Coilpacks
    • Swap CAS with one I currently have
    • Replace all seals
    • port & Polish heads
    • New Head Gaskets
    • New ARP Headbolts
    • New big end bearings
    • Replace turbo's with spare gt2860r's
Followed with placing engine & box back in the car. and do an overall tidy up inside, as its a real mess atm with a small tear in the drivers seat, and most of the interior trim unsecured.
Will post some pics shortly :)

Hi, and welcome to the insanity.
Sounds like you have a bit of working knowledge of these cars. That will come in handy.
Looking forward to seeing the pics.

    Hi Turbodad,

    Welcome to the forum.

That sounds that you got yourself really good bargain for $300 :)

After examine your to do list, I just can't figure out why not chuck in nice set of forged pistons and some new H beam rods when planing on GT2860RS TC's. After-all you got the car for such bargain price :)

Adding those two components on the list will give you less headache on the long run for the total price of 2-2.5k ...

You are already planing on pooling the engine apart and changing big end bearings.
So you are not far away from "perfection' or having true beast of the thing that you won't be afraid of stepping on the gas pedal and not thinking of molten metal coming out of the exhaust pipe...

    ...Just my few bobs...

    Cheers

    Congrats

thinking about it, you've probably purchased a 300ZX in the most sensible condition EVER, as all you have to do now is "do it once. Do it right".

    And $300. A steal!

By the end of it you'll have a good reliable 300ZX for what... ~$3-4K? :zlove: :br:

And you'll know it inside out.
