Pics? Not my thread to hijack.

Money is nice and all but not what its about for me. It was just to perfect for me to not strip it, learn and stop the boredom... this is my "gateway" car... the addiction has only just begun! The price I got it for and what is wrong with it... you would all kill me.

I'll be following this thread closely mate and i cant wait to see how you go with the wiring!... and the rest of course.

    P.S I forgot to mention its a targa ;)

Very minor update, de-powered steering is all back together now so I can move it in and out of the shed as needed. Not very exciting but handy.

Tested some silver rattle can silver paint on the beet area, came up surprisingly well, so I think I'll have a nice silver interior too.

Hey Pete I was just wondering if you found yourself a lightweight rear hatch?

I've been asking around to see what its worth to get a fiberglass one made and the best so far has been $600 but needs 5 confirmed orders before he does it.
But now im thinking "is there a difference between 2+0 and 2+2?"

Not yet, still tossing up doing it myself or paying someone. Same with the Lexan/Perspex to replace the glass.

2+0 and 2+2 hatches are indeed different and from what I could find out $600ish is a decent price for them.

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

Not too bad a price at all.
Given that a negative copy (mould) of the hatch must be made first which is a bigger job than making the copies!!!
A realy light version made up with a plastic screen would weigh next to nothing but its a matter of whether, say a grand once the screen is fitted is worth "X" amount of kilos weight in a club car.......... hard one to answer that!!

Yeah, saving is likely to be around 30kg, decent chunk of weight but at a fair cost too, a few more kg to be had replacing the other windows with Lexan at not much more cost once you have started too.

The weight is up pretty high in the car which is a bonus but also well back on a car already likely to be front heavy. A reasonable amount of it also overhangs the back wheels.

Lots of pros and cons, the cons can all generally be worked around but the 'is it worth it?' question is a tricky one.

Best case scenario I'll make one myself, will cost me about as much as buying one but I'll also learn how to do it which will make it all worth while I think. Not sure if that's actually going to happen though.

Doubt I'll come across a 2+2 one but if I find someone who can make mine as a one off cheap I'll let you know.

Have you looked at the carbon hatches on ebay US? Maybe enquire about a group ship?

Hadn't really considered shipping stuff from overseas due to the cost, even with group shipping I would imagine you'd be well over the cost of getting a custom fibre glass one made locally.

I know there are advantages to cf over fibreglass but I think the fibreglass one would be good enough that the difference is not worth the cost.

That being said, as mentioned I've just been assuming this and not actually looked into it so I may well be wrong.

yeah dont doubt that frp would be more than good enough for what you need, plus might find these are just the layer of cf over frp like most hoods. Could always enquire about getting an frp one made.

I cant imagine these would be cheap to have made locally, probably worth an email.

Getting CF made locally would probably be damn expensive but fibreglass can be done around the $600 mark which is decent I think.

There is also someone in Melbourne making CF panels for his MX5 in his shed so I might look into that too.

Definitely worth looking inot the US parts as well, I might have a look over the weekend.

    Thanks.

they dont make c/f for the 2+2 , they only make them for the 2 + 0 . i have asked them many times to make me a one of and ill pay what eva it is , but i still get a no . anyway my time for a c/f hatch will come . i would rather c/f over fibreglass, so is anyone knows of anyone that can make me one , ill pay good money for it ,,

i was thinking of actually getting a 2+0 and modifying it ( somehow ) , but i dont no shit about that sort of stuff .

US$655 plus shipping, definitely very good value if you're over there but I think international shipping will be a killer due to the space they take up, they don't exactly stack inside each other either so there may not be a huge saving in group shipping unless you get dozens of them and fill a container.

Pretty low on my list of priorities at the moment but if someone does get a good price on group shipping I may well be in.

If I end up playing around doing it myself and it works out doable I'll let you know so you can make your own too.
