I'm getting my list together and just need some advice on exhaust resonator and material options. The plan is; 2x Magnaflow 14807 2.5 Piping UAS 2.5 X-Pipe Resonator Both the resonator and piping I'm unsure Of what materials I would prefer. I'm also unsure of the UAS resonator as-well as i'm told it's a little too quiet. I'm after something reasonably quiet, deep rumble on idle yet agressive sound past 3.5k rpm. Keep seeing exhaust video's up on the net where their 300 sounds like some raspy, backfiring lawnmower. Advice and opinions welcome, idea of this thread is to learn.
I have dual magnaflow mufflers with 2 1/2inch pipe bent cat back and 2 hotdogs on each side (4 all up) on my NA, when he first put it on without any hotdogs it made the raspy sound (and shook the workshop walls) and the first 2 hotdogs still didnt sound right so put in another set and now sounds good.
UAS X-Pipe seems to be more about making the note a bit nicer and reducing cruising RPM drone rather than reducing volume. What you're thinking of will be good, it's pretty much the tried and true NA exhaust system, I'd be tempted to go for 2.25" mild steel mandrel bent piping rather than the 2.5" but that's just a personal preference.
K, That sold me on the centre x-pipe. Guess the question is materials now. X-Pipe and the piping itself, mild steel or stainless. Does anyone have this setup? Edit: Found thread: http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=288991&highlight=UAS+resonator
It's a pretty standard NA set up, a few people will have basically the same thing. I'd go mild steel for the piping, cheaper than stainless and I think it gives a slightly mellower sound.
I've got full 2.5" magnaflow everything on my zed, only thing I'd change is the x pipe muffler to a uas one since the magnaflow one is non resonated and a bit too droney for my liking. Otherwise it's awesome video
Righto, Seen that vid and yeah its exactly what I'm after. Last question then. All the twin magnaflows have a 2.25inlet. UAS x-pipe resonator has a 2.5 inlet/outlet. So if I go full 2.5 will there be much of a loss by the 2.25 inlet on the muffler? Is the back pesssure actually beneficial? Should i just go full 2.25? Questions might be a little overthinking, just trying to get the best power and exhaust note possible. Do it right the first time.
afaik the us and aus measure diameter differently, one measures internal diameter while the other measures external diameter.
Measurements are not country specific. Tubing is measured internally Pipe is measured externally. Just depends on what material is specified. l8r E
Should throw some headers into the mix if sound is your thing. I bought a set of conceptz headers and had them modified to fit RHD. The sound from the engine bay just with stock exhaust is beastial, with a good full system... Just beautiful.
