Cheers mate... yep after being over Stu's house today it seems very likely its one of the injector connectors. Just looking at CarCraze website but not sure which one to get.. I dont think mine are the series 2 injectors but need to double check.

Mate, Just wanted to say a BIG thanks for the help today in giving my girl some new blood and a fresh drink. Still cant believe the crud and amount of rusty particles that came out with the coolant flush  - I should of taken some pics for the memories lol

..I got home ok.. the hesitation came back and oce I got home I tried putting in a little more coolant but it was spilling from the over flow bottle down the front of the passenger wheel so I'm guessing she's pretty topped up.

Just need to know which injector cleaner to buy from CarCraze as I'll be putting in an order tonight ;)

..Time for an evening cruise :br::zlove::zlove:

    pmac Z,, IT'S COMPLICATED!!!!!

If your bring the beast around in the weekend we can do some trouble shooting.
Looks like I'll be pulling that replacement engine down to the cam covers so you'll know all about plenums before where finished.

Happy New every one!! May your year be full of Zed love :zlove:

    just an update..

pulled the drivers door panel to reveal I'm missing more than just the door lock actuator.. missing the metal pipe that attaches to it and the clip for the actuator :bash: ...currently trying to locate said missing parts.. any help will be appreciated.

Spent some time cleaning the crud of corrosion from the injector clips and injector terminals.. also other connectors that I could pull off..TPS and water temp sensors etc.. She runs a lot better now with minimal hesitation. I can still pull the harness and create it running rough but nowhere as it used to be.

After the coolant flush courtesy of Stumagoo :D;) I'm finding that it still needs a top up and found that trying to fill her up caused an overflow issue that drops coolant via the front right splash panel ( passenger side ) i remove the splash plate and noticed a pipe that is just hanging between the overflow bottle and intercooler pipe.. i cant see where it connects to so bit of a mystery to me at the moment.. also the overflow bottle neck attaches to the main holder but is loose.. I had a look and see that its missing an O ring perhaps?.. maybe thats why the radiator isnt 'sucking' from the overflow to keep it topped up?
I only used what i had which is the white plumbing tape to create a seal and pushed the neck of overflow bottle back in.. hope it works..

Another thing I'm noticing is when I'm accelerating moderately.. theres a wirling sound that seems to come from under the drivers side.. I'm hoping its nothing too bad.. my thoughts are possibly the turbo or even the driveshaft..
its not constant.. only when i take it above 4500 rpm but comes on and goes quickly.. I'm not going to know for sure untill I have it up on a hoist in look at it better.

just finished polishing her for the first time and going for a new years cruise :br:

The over flow will do that if the overflow tank is full. Also if the pipe from the radiator to the overflow is blocked (quite possible with the level of crud in your engine) it can cause issues the radiator CO can also suck while cooling if it is faulty. And finally we may have missed air bubbles due to blocked galleries. There was enough crud in there. What I am pretty sure of was that there was not the bubbles associated with a blown head gasket. I have seen that several times now and it was no t showing in your engine on Wednesday. So I suspect it is a simpler issue to resolve

I'm thinking that also mate.. considering you had to shove a screwdriver in the drain hole to start it to flow lol.. I took the splash panel off to have a look at where it joins to the overflow but couldnt see.. also the water in the overflow is not green.. so quite possibly blocked.. sigh..

Should I attempt another flush and try to get more underneath it with the splash plates removed?

another flush is could be a good idea - you should not need any more access than we had before - that drain is accessable easily enough with the top pipes off - I should have checked the overflow bottle connections as well. so yes it may be a good idea but I am more worried that there was absolutely not bypass of the thermostat, I am thinking that it may need chechking some time in the near future.

I am also aware some thermostat brands have no bypass on them

Yep I agree.. I should do another flush, maybe run the radiator flush in it for a day but I need to look at the overflow bottle connections and see if they are blocked before I do the flush cos if they are blocked i dont want that much going through the system again.

what are you doing over the next couple of days? come over mine while I take out the dash and then we can do a flush here lol :bash:

    My first Major job

So after working what felt like heart transplants today if built enough courage to tackle the much needed dash removal to fix the peeling in my beast.

will be setting up the operation tonight to tackle it head on tomorrow morning and hopefully finish it by Monday night as I'll need the car for work next week.

Acquired the clamps from a couple of Uncles of mine tonight.. bought a case of Asahi beer..cos' what else are you going to drink working on a Jap car..

I'm looking forward to it..will be my first major(ish) job

if any one has performed a complete dash removal before. please fell free to give me your 5 cents worth or swing on by my place for some Asahi and a chat ;)

Hope you all are having so far a good new year :zlove:

would love to help buddy but on my way north to try and sort out a radiator issue on the car of a old friend of mine tomorrow - literally just got the message.

    Just an update:

Removed the entire dash last Sunday to repair the 'peeling'. I actually thought it would be much harder than what it was. The repair didnt go to plan as the foam is so brittle that it has started to come apart again and start to rise. I also found so many broken plastic pieces and things missing that I now will be looking for another dash to work on before replacing the one I have. Overall though, the end result is about %85 better than what it was.

I just want to thank pmac for his referral to a guy who was able to supply me with the parts I needed to fix my drivers door handle. I can now use my key to enter the car in the correct side and everything works as it should :)
While I had the door card off i noticed a few strange items.. like, what looks like a car horn .. anyone know what this could/was for?

Today I removed the radiator overflow hose to make sure nothing was blocked. Nothing was, but noticed as i drained the overflow bottle that it was somewhat murky towards the end. I gave the hose and bottle a good flush and replaced the clips and reinstalled.
--I have a Q, when the motor is cold, where should the coolant level be on the overflow dipstick? right now i have it about two notches above H

being Sunday.. time for a wash and a coast drive :zlove:

thats probably because I overfilled it - I often do this when I dont have access to the vehicle after refilling the coolant, the idea is to ensure the system does not suck air on its first cooldown after refilling the system (thats how I was taught it anyway). any excess should just blow itself onto the ground in the future and wont cause any detrimental issues.

lol its not overfilled now mate :) I went for a small drive to cottesloe and back and its still sitting the same on the dipstick so I added a little more dimineralised water and it shows about 3/4 up the dipstick so I'll leave it there for now and check it again when I get home tomorrow. My temp gauge still sits at around 60-65 % and I'm getting paranoid about it because I still dont know where that third temperature sensor is or even if its working.

no third sensor (for coolant) only the 2 at the front and of those the single wire one is the one for your dash cluster - the 2 wire sensor provides temp to the ecu - the dash cluster gauge is what is the weak link here it is prone to reacting late to overheating.

ahhh now I see, cheers mate. So i'm guessing that replacing that sensor for the cluster gauge would be in order if I wanted a more 'accurate' stock reading then?
How's your beast coming along anyways? done any work to her?

no the issue is the whole setup for the stock gauge both in the dash and the sensor that is why some put in a temp warning device, some use datascan (or what ever it was called) which reads from the ecu and others put in an aftermarket gauge that they trust.

I see..(says the blind man) its a shame theres no 'stock' fix for the issue then. I dont particularly want to add aftermarket stuff. Guess I'll just have to learn data scan or use conzult or something to dial my temp readings. Maybe theres a more accurate cluster gauge that can be spliced or changed out for the stock one but still retaining the original look? I dont know.. just think out aloud.

    Just an update:

Something I'm noticing more and more is when I first start the vehicle in the morning it usually fires on first go and straight away. If I go for a small drive and restart her she takes longer to fire up and it almost sounds like the starter is straining or turning over for a longer period then before. Also the tappets are a little noisy on the second restart which doesnt make sense in my mind..becasue they should already be 'oiled' up from the first start up.

I know my battery is somewhat smaller than its supposed to be but if it fires up first shot in the mornings and takes longer any time after that then what could it be?

just got to fill up the tank to the brim today so I'll be gauging just how many K's I'll get on a full tank :)

So after attending a couple of 'Tech days' I'm beginning to understand and narrow down the possible faults of symptoms with my car. Big Thankyou to pmac and michandy for their assistance and allowing to both work on another vehicle and share valuable experience and knowledge on what to expect and what I should be looking at. I can not wait to hold my own tech day but I'm fearing its going to be a long one

on another note.. would anyone like to shed some light on these stickers i have on the car and perhaps what they mean? I've noticed a few other jap specs with similar stickers but again no one can really tell me what they are. I'm particularly interested in the sticker on my drivers side that shows '82000km' there seems to be another sticker underneath but i dont want to remove the top one yet until I know what it is.

the sticker I'm most curious about..

and a couple more cos I love my baby..

any help in translations would be appreciated.. cheers;)

Sure, First is when it was last serviced, and when its due next,

2nd is a parking permit, what type of parking space youre allowed to use

3rd is proof the last safety check was done (11 years ago :D)

4th is something was given by some government department

5th means you need to get sparkplugs changed every 100000km?
