Started messing around with some paint today.

So after hauling my toolbox home from work it rained all weekend so I got stuff all done on the zed.

So I thought why not make the best of my weekend by cleaning and spraying some parts on the zed.

Started with the cam gears. Only did the exhaust side. Don't wanna mess with the intakes.

Polished the lip
[IMG]

Then I taped all around and sprayed them

Sprayed the inside too but there's no photos.

So then i took the tape off and cleaned the edges up.

That's all for now, also did the water outlet pipes too.

Will upload photos when I take them.

Update time

So I didn't achieve the car being registered within 6 weeks. I've had one major but go wrong with the build and a job change so it's come down to pull the engine out and replace the cracked gasket and scored oil pump.

So the story goes when we were doing the crank seal my mate thought the oil pump was some sort of cover and unbolted the top bolts and then realised it wasn't and bolted it back up and then lipped the gasket behind it so once everything was done and rob and myself were starting it unaware that the gasket was lipped. Cranked twice and no dice found out that the ptu plug was broken and not in properly, so I held the plug in place and it cranked over and fired back into life on all 6, was over the moon finally after months of sitting my zed was finished (and still regoed too). Then I looked down and saw the big pool of oil pouring out the bottom of the oil pump housing.

So this set me back a fair bit in the running of the car we quickly shut it off and I went looking for more parts. Found out the oil pump is easiest as an engine out job so that's provided me with some more modifications to be done.

So have been saving all this time and will soon order the parts required.

Pics when I'm back on my computer because my iphone doesn't do it properly.

Also treated the zed to a little carbon :)

Rest of the plenum pull photos

Hey everyone finally got around to uploading the photos of the plenum pull and the timing belt change.

Big big thanks to Rob, Nemanja and Karl, without their help none of this would have been possible.

So basically the plenum went back on with the new timing belt and cam and crank seals, vtc springs and all that fun stuff.

So once we resealed the cam seals and crank seal, rocker covers and changed the half moon seals the timing belt went back on.

[IMG][/IMG]

And the AMS clear timing covers to suit

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

Then the plenum went on... Finally I've turned the car from looking like the engine was made from dirt and grime to something that looks cleaner in the engine bay section. About 20+ cans of break cleaner were used in the process of this...

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

Finally all together for the disappointing "I have to pull the engine out" moment...

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

And started pulling it all back apart suspecting a lipped crank seal...

[IMG][/IMG]

So after replacing the crank seal a second time revealed to us a scored oil pump housing and a lipped oil pump gasket I finally called it quits.. Washed her and got her all pretty for a photo session with the finished project which has now been sold the 4AGE 20Valve blacktop corolla.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

The corolla was built as a sleeper. 20 Valve blacktop corolla with 3" trumpet intake, tomei cams, toda forged pistons, TRD headgasket, Brian crower rods, billet crack and acl bearings, full exhaust.

This was sold to make way for the R31 skyline.

So anyway enough about that.

I got a early Christmas present from the girlfriend.... A border carbon fibre bonnet :D

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

And then I picked up my suede interior and fitted it, big thanks to Jamie (CHILLEDPAIN) for selling it and shipping it across the country for me.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

Then it sat for months whilst I put together a parts list. As I am fairly close to buy the new parts to finish the pull I'll keep you updated. Although a fight broke out between my neighbours about parking sports and that I should move the car so I've had to tow it into storage at a friends house so this is were it's been sitting covered in spiders webs.

[IMG][/IMG]

Until next time fellow zedders :br:

Small update

So the engine pull will be happening very soon, have just paid for a whole bunch of parts, big big thanks to AMS for helping me out so much, seriously the best expirience I've ever had buying parts, reccomend talking to them if your lookin to upgrade. So I ordered a whole bunch of "while it's out" stuff from AMS and have decided to upgrade the cooling system while it's out. Getting my turbos balanced and just see how they are holding up after 20+ years of possible limiter bashing.

So parts being shipped are

TOYZ 3" 4bolt dumps
2.5" AMS intake kit
2.5" AMS discharge pipes
2.5" AMS intercooler pipe kit
RS PERF 2.5" side mount Intercoolers
Front and rear adjustable sway bar links
AMS polished throttle cover.

Spoke with both Vuk and Red at AMS and they have been extremely helpful.
So will have lots to do when the engine come out. Now I just gotta organise a crane.

Until next time :)

more bad news

so after having the car sit for ages i thought it would be good to get it compression tested today just before i pull the engine and unfortunately it turned out bad.

the numbers are as follows, keep in mind that the car has been sitting for nearly a year without being started and the there was no oil left in the cylinders.

Cyl 1 - 135
Cyl 2 - 135
Cyl 3 - 135
Cyl 4 - 100 (this was found to be that the tester wasn't screwed in properly and was letting the compression out, tested again and bumped up to 150 but it had oil in the cylinder from when we did the plenum pull)
Cyl 5 - 125
Cyl 6 - 120

I'm wondering if i put oil in the cylinders will it bump the compression up a bit because these were bone dry and on a cold motor. seriously surprised that it went so good when it was running if it had dropped this much compression

So its obvious that it needs rings or new heads. luckily enough i helped a fellow forum member out that day and he gave me a set of TT heads that he had for ages and was gonna throw away so he donated them for the exchange of services.

So i'm going to add to my order and get a engine gasket kit and get my new heads reco'd so i have them ready when i throw it all back together. gonna send the block away to get re-ringed and new bearings put in along with some rod bolts and flywheel bolts.

Engine pull should be happening in the next few weeks so i'll be updating this thread then.

cheers guys

Thanks Karl, the seats are genuine but the rest is just retrimmed from a car Jamie had for scrap. I'll be in touch when the engine is out (pulling the box next week and then I'll see if I can get a hold if a crane and what not to pull the motor with.

finally an update

So been playing around woth the r31 bought it as a reliable daily and its proven to just be a daily that breaks down every 3 months due to electrical issues...

So i got sicl of the zed sitting with no engine for a year and decided to fit up all the fun stuff i had laying around.

So my plans changed again and im going e85 top feed rail with nistune flex fuel with antilag and launch control programmed in the ecu for sick skids.

So during the year whatever time i had free i was saving money and tinkering with the zed. So i got around to fitting the 2.5" rs performance intercoolers the 2.5" ams intercooler pipes and the 2.5" ams intake pipes.

The old intercooler set up. Stock pipeing and uas intercoolers.

Comparing the rs performance coolers with the old ones.

Fitted up one side... then realised i did it wrong cause theres no instuctions so i googled and found out the right way to fit.

Re done the pipeing.

Then stripped the engine down to a long block as to get ready for the build.

Took it over to my mates house and began the teardown.

Didnt get any photos cause we stripped it down in a hour.

Found my crank has no marks and bore still had factory hone marks. Was very clean internally. Will get photos next time we are there.

So knowing what i need i put together my coz order and within 2 weeks 42kg of car parts showed up on my door step.

My new garrett gt2860rs turbo kit with braided lines.

And ofcourse the 'engine in a box' box.
So ive gone:
CP forged pistons 88mm
Toyz 3" stainless dumps 5 bolt
Supertech dual valve springs
cometic head gaskets
eagle rods
Full nissan gasket kit
Bronze valve guides with viton seals
Camtech cams.

Theres probably more but i forgot.

Anyway so we sent the engine off to get bored out to spec for the new pistons and the heads serviced so i will update when i get it back and start the engine balancing and porting.

So its coming along nicely. Will stop past unique autosports to pick up a set injector dynamics 1000cc injectors and a topfeed rail from rgs performancs.

So thats all for now.
stay tuned. :br:
