Modifying IACV tube?!

I'm sure I've encountered this sometime in the past but not sure if it was successful. Has anyone modified the metal IACV tube (on the side of the plenum - passenger side) by replacing it with a plain rubber hose?

Couple of us running a stainless alternative that smithys place used to sell. Don't see why you couldn't replace it with appropriate sized vacc suitable hose but my god would it be ugly. Keep in mind sharp bends too -it'd have to snake around a fair bit.

Why not chrome or anodise your factory solid line if you want to dress it up? Or even a lick of paint.

Why do you want to replace it?

Mine was chromed at one point but now it has chipped away and is an eye sore. Plus the fact that it has these extra security connections (one on the balance tube passenger side bolts and the other somewhere along the side of the plenum). Hate them with passion!

Does Smithys still have them on the market? Or can you recommend a place where I can source out one for mine?

I shaved all the bracketry off of mine, big improvement, still an eye sore. Straight pipe can be used with the factory hoses.

This is what runs from the pre throttle linkage tubing. To the AIV control solenoid isn't it??? Ie Plastic>Rubber>Metal>Rubber>Solenoid Valve. I have NA but I would avoid. Especially with T28s. :D:D:D If so this line would take the load from inlet at boost pressure less pressure from actuation. Certain "downgrade" is my initial thought. However it would reduce line from, what, 4 connectors to just 2??? Minimising possible leakage. Nickel plating should only be a few bob without polishing. Just nickel is on the yellow side of chrome that's all. Most electroplaters prefer to work with nickel as well.

I replaced mine with a rubber heater hose. No problems here > basic NA daily.

You could just do as I did. Cut the connector tabs off & hit it with some paint. Easy.
