    gday,

well i just thought id post a bit of info on my next project:)
picked up an 89 TT auto with a tad over 100k kms on it for $2500 on friday. The owner said that his mate had been driving and the car had overheated, and thats all he knew.
So i travelled the 8 hour round trip with car trailer in tow and finally got to working on her last night.

the body seems to be in good nick, few scratches here and there but thats to be expected i guess. front bar needs replacing. other then that it all looks pretty good.

now being a bit of a newbie too the 300 scene, the under bonnet situation looked a bit daunting to say the least! but after a good half a day working on it, the engine is just about ready to be pulled. there was a fair amount of oil in the intake piping, so i am assuming even if the motor survived the overheating, it was well on its way to needing a rebuild anyway.

so, plans are to get the motor out sometime during the week, disassemble the motor and go from there.

ill get some pictures up during the week.

engine ready to be pulled. The engine bay, well in fact most of the exterior of the car is filthy as it had been outside for quite sometime. everything is getting stripped out of the engine bay in prep for some new paint

here is the RH front suspension before it goes off to be sandblasted and powdercoated.will also be getting new bushes all round. i will also be repainting the wheel arches and underbody.

the wiring is an absolute mess at the moment. dodgey stereo and immboliser install. and on top of that about half of the plastic tabs that the metal clips sit into have been snapped off and glued together. rewiring the ignition for push button start.

Got a little bored today. I have always had a love for race cars so i thought i would make up a custom center dash with gauges and a few switches. the switches will control ignition, fuel pump, accessories and i have a spare. i have also added an led for each switch that will illuminate when the switch is ON and the circuit is not broken (ie fuse not blown). i will also have a push button start however i am not to sure where i will mount this yet. Also not sure whether to leave it as is or paint it black. any ideas?

i wouldnt advise having the fuel pump on a switch like that, its switched by the crank angle sensor for a reason, and that reason is that in the event of an accident or roll over the fuel pump does not run without the engine running.

Very difficult to put out a fire when the fuel pump is shooting fuel out at 5 litres a minute

If the fuel pump switch is wired in like a immobilizer there wouldn't be any problems.

im not bypassing the CAS, i am simply adding a break in the circuit. that is the pump will not turn on without the switch in the OFF position

haven't updated this in a while as i was in two minds as to whether i should sell this or keep it. Seeing as nobody was interested i have decided to keep it, with the aim of running consistent 11s down the plex.

The motor is still in as i refuse to spend $250 on an engine crane from superheap! As the intake was off i could see the left bank of cylinders had some surface rust so i decided to remove the head and see what the damage was. To my surprise, the engine is relatively new, with .020 OS pistons that don't have much carbon built up on them. The heads have clearly been serviced however 1 exhaust valves in each of cyl 4 and 6 had a fair bit missing. the seats are damaged and the heads have already been milled(and not stamped), so maybe U/S.

here is the head in my home made parts washer that cost me under $100 to make including the 15L of diesel!

Here is a good one, 2 knock sensors wired together, but not to the loom!

Thought i would start a costing/parts list to see how close i get to my 11.5sec goal for 10k (including car purchase), and so people can get some sort of idea on what it costs to go racing.

    Purchases so far

    Car purchase price $2500
    Single 3.5" exhaust $100
    Bomex front bar $150
    GT3540 w/ WG $175
    GT35 rebuild with T04z comp wheel $1100
    GT35 dump flange $70

    total so far $4095

Things i have sold off the car

    Wheels $400
    Interior bits and pieces $200
    Exhaust $50
    ECU $40

    Total $690

So basically, the car as it is now owes me $3405.

Now i do have a few things on hold (that being a vq30det and trans, intake manifold, engine mounts and intercooler to suit, bolt in cage), but i wont add these to the list untill i have received and paid for them.

will get some more progress pics up after this weekend. hopefully will have all the sound deadening stripped out and the interior repainted.

Had a look through the autronic manual and what a great bit of kit the sm4 is! Traction control, launch control, antilag, 2 stage rev limit, boost control in each gear, turbo cool down plus a whole bunch more.
My engines (yes, i have bought 2 :D), will be arriving tomorrow hopefully, and my custom intake manifold will be back from the ceramic coating sometime next week. I have purchased a few more things like omp steering wheel, sparco seats. i will get pics of those up some other time
